Posted 28/08/03 11:21 PM Share Posted 28/08/03 11:21 PM Posted on Aug 28 2003, 05:07 PM have reached 233 with no sign of the limiter. takes forever to get from about 190 - 230 and the stopping "power" is disturbingly lacking. I'll bet you don't have the premium brakes?

plonky The Bionic Man - half man-half titanium Member 1,766 Member For: 21y 9m Location: Dodge Scat Pack Posted 29/08/03 08:20 AM Share Posted 29/08/03 08:20 AM I know that the top speed of a car is good to talk about. Some of us have been faster than what is set by the limiter on the Turbo (230) and I know for a fact that the Turbo, XR8 and the SS are all quite stable and safe at speeds in excess than the speed that is artificially limited by the ECU.However, I would certainly have to ask that unless you do these speeds day and and day out, your ambition is going to catch up with your ability. The reason is that (obviously) everything is happening so much quicker and the faster you go, the faster you have to think and assimilate information and the slower you have to be with your brake/throttle/steering input. Inertia v grip v direction is a recipe of disaster for the unskilled.I wouldn't encourage trying to see how fast your car would go, especially if you infrequently travel over 180kmh constantly. Even for trained drivers, the amount of concentration required as well as the body's natural tendency for sensory deprivation when you are under great stress (driving fast is stressful if you don't know what you're doing), is enormous. I know that at the end of a 45 minute pursuit at an AVERAGE SPEED OF 180KPH (hitting 245 to 250 on a number of occasions), I was pretty pumped up. Once the adrenalin level reduced it is physically and mentally quite taxing. This was not on a race track, but on a country single lane highway with all the additional dangers of fenced livestock, traffic coming the other way, ever changing road conditions etc etc Be confident in the bragging rights that a Turbo or XR8 with no speed limiter will hit speeds higher than the 230kmh artificial limit.Don't go and try it though unless you get paid to drive cars like that for a living and have had the same sort of intense driver training.Sorry to be a spoil sport...... SJW Member 122 Member For: 21y 4m 17d Location: Brisbane QLD Posted 29/08/03 10:41 AM Share Posted 29/08/03 10:41 AM I agree, if I wanted to go 240+ , then I would tape my skinny ass to a rocket.I love the XR6T for the low end accelaration and mid range turbo power. The top end speed is a bonus.Good point about the speed. Despite the chest beating I am reading, it has plenty of get up and go when you need it. I would hate to see pictures on the news of an XR6 wrapped around a tree due to driver error.Enjoy. Velvet Glove Team Blueprint Member 532 Member For: 21y 8m 29d Posted 30/08/03 05:51 AM Share Posted 30/08/03 05:51 AM Again Plonky has pinched my words ! Well said mate. If you are involved in a bingle at those speeds and someone gets hurt (assuming u get out of it alive) the Police can reconstruct what speed the accident occurred at, and the driver will go to jail for it.I have lost count of how many people (more often than not young males) who have been killed in single vehicle accidents on relatively basic roads. The cause....speed.Four young blokes here in Canberra died in a single vehicle accident on a relatively quiet day on a dual carriageway. The driver had failed his drivers licence test 3 times, and had finally passed it that morning. He took himself and 3 school mates for a drive and lost it at a million miles and hour, all of them dead.If you take your car up to 240km/h on a public road anywhere but the NT you are an idiot, and a dangerous one at that. One bird in the windscreen, a stray cow/horse/dog/kangaroo and you are dead, no questions asked. Is it really worth it. I thought that's what Playstations were for. There's a fine line between harmless fun and stupidity. I dont want to be hearing stories about guys on this forum dying from stupidity.Drive safe guys. Lets stay around to enjoy this car. I know its fast, you know its fast, THEY know its fast. Why bother killing yourself proving it

( P.S , I am stepping down off my soapbox now ... blessed are the cheesemakers )Nah... Blessed be thy Holy Hand Grenade. So thou might blow mine enemies into tiny bits, in thy mercy.... :D As per the last couple of posts - if you really want to become a smear on the pavement, then go right ahead and get yourself killed. We will mourn the loss of your XR6T more than your lead-foot attitudes.... (sorry folks, it's my Darwinistic side coming out)My reasons for getting an XR6T:1. Because it's a bloody good car!!!2. Looks so much better than most cars out on the road.3. Has the grunt there when you need it.4. Very nice and comfortable interior to accomodate my tastes.5. Has a very good resale value (provided you look after it...)6. Plus I've always been a "Ford person"... B) I could have easily afforded a luxury car like a BMW 3-series or a Merc, but I'm not the type of person who "likes" those kinds of cars. I prefer a top-quality car that is enjoyable to drive in the city and country... for me, that's the XR6T. Such attributes probably explain why there is such a waitlist for them.... can't wait until mine arrives in October.

One bird in the windscreen, a stray cow/horse/dog/kangaroo and you are dead, no questions asked. Is it really worth it. I thought that's what Playstations were for. Well up until this bit I was enjoying your post but I think you've got a bit carried away here with where the line between what is legal and what is safe is drawn.Doesn't the NT have all those aforementioned critters?I'm sure the NT roads aren't THAT much better than some of the freeways we have in the other states but which are limited to 110kph.My argument is this:If it is only safe to drive at 110 kph on our freeways in NSW, and if this is taken as the benchmark for safety based on said legal speed limit, then I will never be convinced by anyone that it is safe to drive at double the accepted speed limit simply because you are in the NT - oh yeah it may be legal, at least prima facie, but safe NO, at least not by the lawmaker's definition.Mind you, having said that, I really believe that a person can drive safely at well above the posted 110kph speed limits. It all comes back to circumstances and all those variables we know all too well - and unfortunately those circumstances and variables dictate that the lawmakers work to the lowest common denominator. That is: they assume everyone has the reflexes of the oldest known licence holder, and that every car is only as good dynamically as the oldest vehicle registered for road use, and that every road is in the same condition as the poorest stretch of road imaginable. Sorry.............Team HgAg member (what am I apologising for) Straying from the topic again ...But Sliverhawk obviously slept through the ...rainbow coloured wheel that was spun at high speed and became white, science lesson in primary school...or you would know that white is in fact all colours! Poor colour blind HaaG My white XR6T will do no more than 225km/h, ...Id imagine.
