As you know.......White is not a colour

Errm... white is a colour. White objects reflect all wavelengths of light (all colours of the visible spectrum) to produce the white we see.

Black is theoretically not a colour because it absorbs all wavelengths and reflects no light so is not a colour. But there's no true black object out there.

In fact, as we know, there are some seriously nice looking silhouette XRs out there with high gloss finishes... but that's beside the point.

;)

230 kph !!!!! That is around 61.5 meters per second. Not much time to react.

Look ahead, anticipate.

I have lost count of how many people (more often than not young males) who have been killed in single vehicle accidents on relatively basic roads. The cause....speed.

Four young blokes here in Canberra died in a single vehicle accident on a relatively quiet day on a dual carriageway. The driver had failed his drivers licence test 3 times, and had finally passed it that morning. He took himself and 3 school mates for a drive and lost it at a million miles and hour, all of them dead.

Well said both Velvet Glove and Plonky.

I must admit, just reading about the speeds that we are talking about gets me wanting to try it out. Until I read the stuff from our members of the constabulary - those who've seen it all... the speeds and the results of accidents, and it brings me back to earth.

Perhaps we all need bringing back to earth now and again.

Because every time I read these forums I just want to get out in the car and take it for a spirited drive. And if I go and do that I just know I'm at a great risk of damaging my car, me and anyone else that is out there.

Flame me all you like, but I think that these forums need a pics page of high performance cars wrapped around trees and some testimonials from survivors and witnesses. Just to remind us all of the downside of driving at speeds we aren't used to driving at - as was said above.

No flames and no argument from me...

you said it all:

"Driving at speeds we aren't used to driving at"

PLONKY has always said hey, if you do it, be aware of the consiquences, fair enough. But I do not appreciate personal insults from other similarly employed persons who do not know sod all about me.

well, I drive at speeds in excess of 110KPH EVERY TIME I DRIVE
I'm not breaking the law and I'm not endagering ANYBODY.
and I REFUSE to feel bad about it...um... so there!

Sixfan, well said the speed limits on some Australian roads are simply a stupid JOKE. No wonder many people die on our roads, how are they going to learn to drive safely at higher speeds when we have these silly 100 KPH speed limits on perfectly safe highways? They never Will. Victoria the POLICE state, the place to be ??????? :( :( :(

The problem now days 100 ks feels like you are walking

I drive 5 ks and feel like a sleep, on the freeway that is

We might need faster speeds on freeways so we concentrate more

Yep!

How about trusting the police to pull people up who are driving in an unsafe manner instead of going 0.5 KPH over some stupid arbitary limit!

I'd like to see the young drivers not only learn proper car control before getting their licence, but also limited in some way as to what they can drive in the first three years. Older cars might be the answer for some of the reasons I mentioned above.

Victorian P platers are limited in what they can drive, I believe Victoria is the only state who does. It's not as though they are only limited to 4cyl cars or anything like that, but P platers here are limited on a power/weight and capacity/weight ratios (not allowed to drive a car of more than 3.5L/tonne or 125kw/tonne). Unfortunately, that means the XR6T isn't P plater legal, but it isn't strictly enforced here (and you could always take the Turbo badge off and pretend it's a non turbo XR6 (which is P plater legal)).

The speed limits on highways are a load of crap, but to make the roads safe for higher limits (spending lots on roads, weeding out a lot of the crappy drivers, making licence tests incredibly hard, etc) would be political suicide, so to retain the public's votes, they just leave the limits in place.

I believe that the current Victorian road rules cause more accidents than they prevent. With such a small margin for error alot of people spend more time looking at their speedo than they do looking at the bloody road. When your driving it should be watch the road glance at the speedo. But with the small margin for error and huge penalties most people watch their speedos and glance at the road.

The Victorian Police slogan should read "speed laws kill".

I thouroghly support having speed cameras in 40kmph school zones as this can truely save lives. Having speed cameras on the downhill section of a 3 lane freeway and booking everyone doing over 3kmph over the limit is blatant revenue raising and bloody rude. This also causes normal people to have a resentment against authority which makes the job of the police harder.

I believe that it doesn't catch the right people either. As an example my wife who drives mostly at the limit and very "nicely" has used all 12 points and if she looses 1 more point in the next 12 months will have her license suspended for 6 months. I on the other hand who have only 2 speeds (flatout and stop), but who also keeps a constant lookout for police and cameras has not lost a single demerit point in over 3 years. I find this amusing but it annoys the crap out of her. :banghead:

I'll get of my soap box now.

Geea.
