Hey look

Ambition can get confused with ability.

I have actually been involved with one of the guys down at PDT in putting together a familarisation package for the XR6T for some HWP, due to the fact that they are a different type of power delivery and the shallow throttle travel of the electronically controlled accelerator (no cable) requires a smooth deliberate use of the accelerator.

It comes down to being trained how to adapt to a particular style of vehicle and resorting to years of training and familiarisation:

eg:

XR8 Very easy to oversteer due to high torque output at low to mid RPM. Very easy to go into front wheel skid if you take too much speed into pre apex. (These are the BEST cars fullstop. I love them..best power delivery, hard aggressive acceleration, awesome brakes, bit soft at high speed but the directness of the car suits my driving smooth style)

SS Very easy to lose the rear if you do not read the warning signs due to limited feedback. Lack of bottom and mid range allows for full throttle acceleration however very easy to overcome grip on wet road if boot is still into it. An easy car to drive fast for those without developed driving skills.

XR6T Bulk torque at 2500 to 4800rpm however the mild lag will bring people undone due to short throttle travel (very sensitive throttle same as XR8 due to electonic control). Not as controllable on throttle as XR8 due to boost/off boost characteristics of turbo engine though this is made minimal due to capacity.

Basically, you can't get into an XR6T and expect to drive it like an SS (which has been the choice of HWP since 1991) without having some sort of familiarisation with the specific characteristics of the car.

I know the basis driving principles should remain the same in each car (and they do) but familiarity breeds contempt. If the guy 'fubared' then so be it.

How many of you have done the same?

PS I'm not defending him (whomever it may be) but I can see why it happened that is why we are actively doing something about it.
