Been reading Atkins diet revolution book and makes interesting reading regarding his approach to weight loss in a way other than low fat and being constantly hungry, but by controlling carbohydrate intake, and eating high fat foods. Has anyone any experience/opinions.

Hi Merc - I have been on it a couple of times and lost weight both times - the first time quite a considerable amount - so it works but its easy to put it back on again and you really start to crave carbs and something sweet - but given that you follow it for the 2 weeks then do the recommended with the vitamins etc it is great for losing quick kilos. Tips - don't stay on it for longer than 2 weeks, stick to water only and do the ketosis thing regularly And if you start feeling ill - go off it - was just doing it again recently and had that happen. I think Lord Cyric is on it now as well.

Yep Merc,

If there's a diet around I've probably had a bash.

As others who have met me can attest, there has been little success. (Hence the term BallastMan)

I did the Aitkins for a strict 2 weeks. Lost not one part of a kg. (it was fun for a few days though)

Just for fun, I've just begun a new one. Low carb, Low fat, Low alcohol, Low protein Low calcium low food intake, Low exercise and Low bloody interest....... :ermm:

I'll let you know how it goes........... :smilielol:

When I was 19 (a long time ago now) I went on a crash diet and lost 22kg in 8 weeks..... 12 years later I still have not put all of it back on (Although bloody close) Then I was 100kg on the dot.... dropped it down to 78kg... 12 years later 96-97 kg and 191cm tall...

I would not recommend my diet but here it is anyway...

breakfast: two pieces of toast

morning tea: a piece of fruit

lunch: frozen youghurt with an apple and an orange chopped into it

afternoon tea: strawberries (250gram container)

dinner: half a chicken breast (grilled) half a cup of rice with chili sauce

evening snack: ummm you dont get one

I made sure I did not eat after 6pm.... and exercised my as$ off

Thought at 78kg I was really cool... looking back now... I was really stupid  ... would love to lose about 8kgs but will look for an alternative way this time... Atkins might be the way to go??

I saw a BBC doco on the Atkins diet on ABC and they said Atkins' diet works, but not for the reason he says it does.

Apparently its all about protein, I.e. the protein in meat. Protein tells the stomach its full quicker.

A couple of guys I work with are gym junkies and, even though Ive never spoken to them about it, all I see them eating is salad and tuna. They eat tuna like maniacs.

Rob, when l was in my BodyBuilding yrs l used to do the Atkins diet twice a year this is a HIGH PROTIEN diet which is very affective if you do it the right way....you should also drink at least 3 litres of water every day (MINUMIM) to flush the toxins out of your body.

My Diet consisted of

36 Large Farm Egg Whites every morning with 2 slices of fresh pineapple

3 pieces of bacon

chicken as much as you can eat

1/4 of a cup of rice

1 can of tuna in brine

1 steamed sweet potato and that was for the day.

Don't forget this is for me weighing at 115kg and 5% bodyfat....and only did this diet for 2 weeks MAX. After the 2 weeks l had stripped off another 2% fat and weighed 110kg.

I am a BIG UNIT (6'5" 135kg) and I have a friend who swears by the Glutien free approach. This means no wheat products. I have been on it for a week and lost 2kg without excersise (had flu), so this week I will be doing some work on the bike and treadmill, so I guess it will be more than a few kg in weightloss for this week.

The trick to loosing weight is EXCERSISE and do not eat after 7pm as your body will burn fat while you sleep. Also drink HEAPS of water. The Atikins diet can be dangerous for people with high blood pressure and colestorol as it will make it worse.
