Evenin' all,

Been browsing your fine forum here doing some pre-purchase research.

Looking at updating my company car to a BA Falcon and I'm considering the XR6.

Company rules say I have to get an auto, I'm not allowed to get a turbo, and I can't afford a V8. Bummer.

Anyway, what's the benefit of the XR6 over these runnout XTs/SRs with extra bits? (apart from badges / colours / fog lights). Is there a significant difference between (XT optional) sports suspension and XR suspension? Is the poor man's XR worth it? Should I forget aspirations of a sporty family sedan, have a prozac sandwich and get an XT?

Excuse my ignorance. The last Ford I owned was an 84-ish Telstar (really a Mazda).

Thanks for any advice.

Well, welcome to the forum

BUT I must say I have an XR6 n/a and I really don't like it being called that. I can tell you I ain't poor, and I love my XR6 without the turbo.

But just remember the XR6 n/a will still have 40NM more torque than the new 190kw Commodore.....mmmmm is it worth it, well YESSSSSSSS

My XR6 still gives the SS a good run for his money off the line.

I must end this post by saying A 42 000 dollar car ain't for the poor man, and if you take the turbo out of the XR6T, you have an XR6 so I guess everything all said and done they are the FORD XR6 range, with the turbos being heaps quicker.

Up to you but you won't be sorry if ya own the XR6.

Oh and the XR6 has a better resale than the XT and the SR is a limited edition thing to bump sales up. I personally don't like the idea of it but hey FORD seem too.

Mrs z loves her venom XT with the herrod exhaust, spoiler, mags, sports suspension etc. She prefers the plush upholstery to the XR plexus stuff, but would've liked the XR front and the blue instrument lighting.

Given the choice again, I think she would've been better to go for the N/A XR6. She preferred the N/A as it has higher towing weight limits and she tows a horse float.

Resale on the XR6 will always be better than the XT and that's the way I'd suggest you go. Leather and premium sound are worthwhile options if the budget stretches and HgAg is definitely the best colour as venom and blood orange are no longer available.

If you're a bit of a 2-bob lair (ancient history term) the Herrod exhaust is LOUD and sounds a bit like a V8 at low revs. Trundling around the block, there's no doubt her car sounds sportier to the average punter than my T.

Well since the EB (1991) the XR6 HAS been an N/A, albeit a slightly more tuned than the regular six (Ford, take notice). So in actual fact the XR6T is the fast-mans XR6.

It comes down to what you want, a (still) raspy (relatively) low torque engine in a shapely but light bodied expanded german car or an Australian designed and developed and safely engineered shapely car with abundent power AND torque.

Afterall it was only 5 years ago the XR8 had 185Kw...

Anyway, welcome to the forum :welcome:

The Ford SR etc came out a few weeks after I took delivery of my XR6 NA and I felt a little cheated. The feeling lasted all of 10 minutes! It is difficult to emulate something that has been developed over time with a few add ons - the suspension etc of the NA were developed for the T, the "sport" suspension for the XT was not. The Lux Pack only available in the XR6 is a must have which when combined with side air bags and few other things (see signature) gives you a Ghia sports sedan that will keep you happy for years :w00t2:

I too had the same reason for not being able to get the T :spoton::w00t2:

XR must win this argument. Resale of XR = 65%, XT = 59%. XR comes in unique colors, nicer 17" rims, unique dash etc etc. XR is a great package and regardless of how you dress an XT up, it is still an XT.

XR6 = Futura with a body kit.

In my opinion id rather a Futura or a Fairmont.

When I see a NA XR6 I look to see what other options it has and if they have spent close to 6k on other options (sunroof ,leather and 18"s) I think to myself why didn't they get a T. Id rather a Futura or a fairmont anyday, a NA is car that looks llike a muscle car with out the muscle.

I have said this so many times, Without the turbo all you have is the XR6 so apart from power there ain't no difference. Anyway it is still a muscle car to me my N/A beats Monaros and SS off the line everytime.

What stopped me from buyinf the Turbo, because if you are under 25, and have had a suspended license in QLD, you find it near impossible to insure a car. So if I wanted the turbo, I still couldn't have had it. Anyway my reason to by the XR6 n/a

, was because after the warranty is up, I will have her SUPERCHARGED, something I have always wanted to do, supercharge a great FORD, nothing wrong with Turbos, just that I like Supercharges. That should give me more power than I need, with my other planed mods, I will have atleast 430kw at the FLy, nothing to scoff at I say. NA THUNDER will back me up on this.

Anyway I just get sick of people running down the XR6, jesus, with out the R & D on the six cylinder, the turbo concept would never have happened, anyway I haven't found a reason in this forum to get sh*tty before, but now I find people bagging what is a great car, so what it doesn't have the freaking turbo component, it wasn't money that stopped me, but the bloody regulations put on people of different age groups. KINDA sucks when a 4ft chinnesse person can buy a big car like the camary, cause an accident, and still be allowed to buy another one, when I can't just because there are a few HOONS out there who haven't learnt to drive yet. Anyway just my MONDAY b**ch session. But please stop putting sh*t on the N/A XR6.
