Just got back from a great weekend of drag racing. Went up with Dean (xrdreaming) and caught up with some of the other forum regulars (Big Mick and others). We got there at 2pm and racing started at 4pm. Dean and I also stayed over night and did some more racing on the Sunday with the ute guys. I learned alot from both days and I try to share it.

First off my car is awesome and the driver seems to be able to do some little thing wrong on most runs. I did have one perfect run although it was into a head wind. I got a new PB of 12.244@115.38mph with a 1.920 60' this was on factory street tyres.

The first 2 runs (which are usually the best) where spoilt by the fact that I hadn't flicked the switch and was running the 10psi map. The first run was a 12.63@112 (2.00 60') mph the second was a touch slower. I then flicked the switch after abusing the crap out of myself for being so stupid. The car ran great all night and had times of:

12.33

12.35

12.38

12.38

I didnt get a PB but the car was running great. There was a strong headwind which was slowing us down abit I think. On one of my first runs with the 12psi map the car still changed into 4th even though I was tappingf the shifter upwards. I have since fixed this. I now change manually 2-3 @5600-5700rpm anmd then I put the car back into normal drive. This worked perfectly for the rest of the night.

The last two runs were interesting as the car lost traction just before the 1-2 change and hit the limiter. I found out afterwards that this was due to moisture on the track.

After spending the night in Bendigo with Dean, we headed back in the morning. After studying the timecards I figured I knew what I had to do and all I had to do was get it right. First run I got it all right and the car did the rest and the new PB was had. I ran again and equalled my old PB and parked it and changed tyres with Dean. Dean lent me some V8 Supercar slicks. These need a lot of heat.

After waiting to get the car cool I headed for the line. Under instrution form Dean I smoked the tyres in 3rd gear and got them real hot. I launched with a 1.91 60' which is my best yet. The car then ran a 12.4165@113.49mph. I have an intake temp gauge and during this run it went well over 70c. On most of my runs it only goes to mid 50c's. I think the extra temp killed the ET and MPH and that the gain of extra traction was not enough to counter the extra heat. This is probably due to the factory intercooler.I tried one more run but got wheel spin.

I learned that slicks wont help my car with the current intercooler and that 12.24 is the best the car can do in its current setup. The time might come down a touch with favorable winds as my mph was 1.2 slower than my old PB.

I was able to launch consistantly form 2200-2300rpm and never had wheel spin.

The transmission was fantastic and no matter how many runs never slipped. The heat it must have been holding by the end of the night never seemed to affect the times. I know that Deans auto seemed to get a bit slippy after his first few runs. Deans mph started at 112 and towards the end wouldn't get over 108. This morning Dean had a 113 first up as well so its great when its cold but seems to suffer abit from the heat.

I'd also like to thank Dean for putting up with me for the weekend, I had a great time.

I hope that fellow racers can use some of this info to help their own PB's.

I have spoken to Rob and Ian (Amberley Autos) about going quicker. To go from where I am now to any quicker is a major step.

At the moment alot of different parts are at or near their limits and need to be upgraded to achieve safe reliable power. The followingh are what would need to be altered

Valve springs.

Rods

Intercooler

Pistons. (possibly ok but may as well change at the same time as the rods).

I think there would be some work to the waste gate aswell.

High flow cat. (possibly whole exhaust, I'd like something similar to Brians current setup).

Rob has told me he wont go any further than current power (280ish rwkw's) without doing the rods first. Simon at Nizpro is of a similar opinion.

I cant see myself going any further at the moment. I may get a typhoon intercooler fitted at some stage but not for extra power, just for more consistant power.

Well done on the new pb mate.... :censored: I would do anything for that 60' time

I think Mick had a 1.98 60'. Maybe ask your APS tuner if they could get you a little extra down low.
