XR6T Problems

Hi all,

Recently was getting my car serviced, I got a phone call from one of the service managers and he told me to come in and check out some problems he found with my car.

- Engine was pinging

- Wiring harness for ECU was melted

- Car was runnng rough on idle (you could feel your feet vibrating)

- Heatshields on exhaust where vibrating making a terrible noise on idle

- Tailshaft replaced due to "Ting ting ting noise" when gearing down.

- Diff replaced due to clunking on speeds between 60 and 90

- Clutch replaced to due "clutch shudder" issue (from factory what the f*CK?)

- Gearbox undergoing review as we speak for 3rd and 5th gear crunching

- Standard BOV had a whole in it

- Car overboosting and going in to limp mode.

- 4 Different problems came up when they plugged it in to the computer... (luckily no driver induced fault codes lol :spoton: )

- Brake shudder (2 front discs slightly warped from factory, which then got warped even more from being used over and over - result: replaced).

- Steering column replaced (and some other hoses) which where causing it to crunch on low speeds when turning.

And this is from a car, I rarely drive (on the weekends only) and barely punish it, unless the fully sick habib pulls up next to me with his WRX - where I cannot resist but angle straight past him.

Although my service guys are family friends of mine and are fixing the problems as fast as they can - the point is, if im having these problems from A BRAND NEW CAR that I paid $47,000.00 for, then seriously...Im sure others are having similar problems.

I am honestly questioning wether I should simply pack my bags and just sell her after she gets fixed or stay strong and fight it. I mean every car has problems, but I'm certain if I went with that Audi S4 I was looking at, I wouldn't have had the same problems.

Whats your feedback guys?

Mate it's sad to hear your problems...don't know how you feel right now but keep your chin up and hopefully the T will see healthier days :spoton:

I would stay strong and fight it like you said :spoton:

yeah... I too have problems and my list is just as big as yours..... still trying to get many of them sorted out after 7 months.... its either "we need the car back as noise is only intermittent" hence we cant find it... Well They are not going to find it if they only drive it for ten kilometres or so!!

otherwise its "ford currently have no fix for this" or "this is normal sir" Like *beep* it is!!!! or "could not fault" TRY FCUKING HARDER!!!!! and im sure you can!!

I know how u feel mate.... just try to hang in there.... I really want to get a few mods done but cant do them until original problems have been sorted out :spoton:

- Car was runnng rough on idle

YES, FORD have re-programmed my ECU 6 times now due to rough idel and the occasional stall

- Diff replaced due to clunking on speeds between 60 and 90

YES

- Standard BOV had a whole in it

Didnt think they came with a BOV standard? hmm

...

Apart from those problems which were fixed before the 3000k service, I am very happy with the car.

I've had an intermittant performance problem with mine, combined with a (according to the tripmeter) fuel consumption that never stopped going up (albeit slowly)

Went back a few times, never any fault codes, no fault found, "it's the most powerful T that the mechanics have ever driven" (pulled 170rwkw :gooff: on the C&V dyno a few days later! :kissmy: )

I noticed a coolant leak dripping onto the airco compressor - the well known o-ring leak and it seemed that it was taking forever to warm up - the temp gauge could take 15+ minutes to get to the "normal" range...

So it was booked in last week, to find that it wasn't the o-ring, but the gasket onto the engine block, and that the thermostat seal was sticking - all three were replaced

It feels like I'm getting some power back, and the fuel consumption is dropping !

Would a "cold" engine cause Ford's fancy PCM to detune the engine ? (FORDTECH or harasn R U listening ?)

Any idea if the thermostat problem could have caused any long-term problems ?

I'm seeing Spiro on Monday, so it will be interesting to see what the dyno says

The Blow off valve (BOV) is the black cyclinder shaped plastic device fitted near the top TURBO badged plumbing on the top of the motor near the firewall. The wastegate is incorporated in the turbocharger and is not easily visable due to heatshields. The T has both.
