mickq Member 740 Member For: 21y 9m 29d Posted 13/08/04 12:56 PM Share Posted 13/08/04 12:56 PM A few more interesting facts:- They make about 8000hp- One cylinder makes about 750hp - pretty close to a Formula one cars entire output! (~900hp this year for the best ones, but 750hp only 18 months ago)- 0 to 160kmh in 0.8 seconds. 11 seconds faster than a Porsche 911 Turbo- The fuel pump delivers the equivalent fuel of 8 bathroom showers operating at once- The rear wing can develop up to 3.6 tonnes of downforceI have to say the 0-160 in 0.8 seconds scares me the most. Having done 0-100 in 2.1 seconds - which scares the living sh*t out of you even if you are used to fast vehicles, I can not even dare to imagine about 0-160 in 0.8 seconds. They don't a modern version (alloy block/heads etc) version of the Chrysler HEMI ??Well, they certainly don't use twin cam Nissan RB26 DETT, Subura flat four Turbo, big block FE Series, or even Ford Semi Hemi 429 BOSS enginesThe modern dragster runs a large CID alloy block/alloy head version of a Chrysler HEMI. The cylinder heads may have twin plugs but the head has a hemispherical dome and the design is all modifications/refinement of the Chrysler HEMI engine. If they don't run HEMI's then what type of engine do they run. V8, hemispherical heads, pushrods, big cubes, big superchargers.......all sounds like HEMI to me
Guest Scootre Guests Posted 15/08/04 12:45 AM Share Posted 15/08/04 12:45 AM Great post!Nobody has mentioned the tyres. I can't remember but the circumference of the tyres - especially the fronts, expands enormously. And what do the tyres cost and how many runs do they get? When I was a teenager, I worked for a publishing company that did a paper called "Drag Racing News" and I got to go out to Sydney's Castelreagh Drag Strip and watch all the racers and sit in the VIP box with the big names. Those were the days.
