One thing that needs to be looked at is the Falcon and Commodores gearing.

Plonky, you said about the Late model camira that "STILL CARRYING THE SAME WEIGHT, THUS WITH THE INCERASE IN POWER, THE CAR HAS A VERY NICE POWER TO WEIGHT RATIO".

Albeit it true, the Late model camira has much shorter gearing than the Falcon - ESPECIALY first gear. If you had identical gearsets, the Falcon would maul the Late model camira 0-100 even WITH the weight disadvantage due to the big torque the Falcon produces. Ford dont need to make the first gear any shorter at the moment as it would hurt fuel economy and its not like the Commodore (V6) is quicker than the Barra 182 or even the AU models! (157kW) So why would they??

If you want a Ford with more performance, buy a performance model - that's how they sell cars and make money.

Ross

PS. I am only refering to the 6 cylinder variants of the Falcon and the Commodore, and not the V8's.

You guys are missing the point I think

I stand by my analysis that the BA MK2 will do bugger all against an upgraded model that has:

NEW HI TECH ENGINES MARKETED THE ONLY WAY Expensive Daewoo KKNOW HOW

STILL CARRYING THE SAME WEIGHT, THUS WITH THE INCERASE IN POWER, THE CAR HAS A VERY NICE POWER TO WEIGHT RATIO

The VZ SS with the same weight, more power and torque as well as electronic throttle control will give the SS the edhe AGAIN in the acceleration stakes.

How would YOU feel if the cheapest performance Commodore (the SV8) or the SS, still has the ability to FLICK THE DICK OF THE GT and get away with it.

Ford may have more power and torque, but it is too slow, cannot achieve acceptable acceleration times in comparison to the GM product and is lumbered with way too much weight.

I love my Fords bu the VZ is a sales winner !

PS the Late model camira S is projected to be the big seller for GM. The 190Kw V6 in a lightweight body is going to make a fantastic cheap option to the XR6T. Falcon sales will suffer.

Sep 04 Motor magazine:

¼ mile times:

BA Falcon XT - 15.28

VZ Late model camira SV6 - 15.34

The VZ is definitely an improvement but Expensive Daewoo still doesnt have an answer to the XR6T in my books.

The problem for ford is - XR6T IS TOO GOOD!

Aftermarket tuning with a simple chip and nothing else gets you an extra 20-30kw ie F6 level. I am sure that Ford can get hell of a lot more out of the Turbo but they are hamstrung by the Boss V8 - you just cant sell an 8 that has less ponies than turbo6.

Solution - Simple add a turbo to the 8 and produce a GTHO  :w00t2:

In todays article in www.drive.com they did a comparo with an sv6 and a n/a xr6 surprise surprise the judges voted the xr6 a better catr. Maybe I am a little biased here but still reckon Expensive Daewoo can't match it with the BA ...its too good an all round package!!! GO FORD GO!!!!!

Plonkey, you don't sound like much of a ford fan to me. Not that I care about what you think, but your talking crap. The SV6 does 0-100 in 6.95 sec, 1/4 in 15.19 sec (150 km/h) as per motor. A manual 182 xt does 0-100 in 7.23 and 1/4 in 15.23 (with 3.23 final drive). The xr6 with it's 3.45 is about half a second quicker again. The 175 bomadore is slower than the sv6 (presumably), so the vz isn't as quick as the ba, your arguement just went out the window. The new ss did 0-100 in 5.82, and 1/4 in 13.99, the 6 speed ar's and GT will be at least .3 seconds quick than 5 speed due to the shorter gearing and quicker shift. Can't wait to see the mk 2 times.

Ford has Expensive Daewoo on the ropes, and fords engines, as always, are rubbing their nose in it (still)

LS1's are sh*t, so don't bother with that. What sort of car company sells brand new cars with a bottle of oil in the boot. Any other car maker would stop their cars leaking/burning oil.

I am not interested in V8 present past and future....the best six offered by ford at the moment is the 240T....I have just spent over $2500 to get to 300fwkw from an aftermarket tuner..If ford beancounters were clever I would be paying FOMOCO the extra instead of a aftermarket tuner..Once again the blue oval office has left performance consumer going else where not just aftermarket but to other manufacturers

There is a concept in economics known as price discrimination. If you think Ford should produce a 300kW car at $45,000 a pop then you encounter marketing issues and begin to cheat yourself of revenue. Google up price discrimination and you'll see what I mean. ;^)

[ive got a degree in advertising/marketing from the Uni of Canberra, Ive got a bit of a clue about these things.]

cheers

just done a quick search,,,, arent all sellers doing this too some degree with there products anyway :blink:TurboDewd I think I know what your talking about...If the xr8 and gt are less desirable(kw wise) then you start taking sales away from these model ,leaving you with wasted dollars spent on research and development thus resulting in a negative profitability on these particular models which inturn( I may be wrong) making them more expensive to recoup the cost of bringing them to the market..I can understand why ford have gone the route of 240 260 290 but it doesnt cost in my opinion $15000 to go from 240 to 290 when all it takes is $2500 to get to 300 from 240...

TurboDewd I may be totally wrong but if you want you can PM to explain this better to me :spoton:

Yeah that's right, I have been on this Forum long enough to know that I'm not much of a Ford fan.

Welcome to the Forum.....you might learn something.
