Even though the BA is not a model your parts people would know about, the fact is that the engine has the same crankshaft and conrod dimensions of the old 250 motor and there are plenty of speed shops in the US who service go fast bits for them so there should not be a problem at all with conrods for the BA motors. If your going to do the rods you may as well do the pistons too. Grant Member 453 Member For: 22y 6m 4d Location: Kurrajong, Sydney Posted 09/08/04 05:21 AM Share Posted 09/08/04 05:21 AM I asked that a while back... Rob Herrod recommended forged pistons but a few people on here suggested that was excessive. Mind you, that was when APS were after cars for testing their product and no-one really had thought of power levels getting to where they are now. I think that Nizpro or Brian would be the people to ask since they are the ones replacing the pistons in their kits. Unless I'm much mistaken, APS don't change them in their kits to date.Grant Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/12222-pistons-rods-and-other-internal-bits/page/2/#findComment-152566 Share on other sites

Admittedly it was short term only during early testing, but the motor did cop a thrashing during that time. Blew two sets of rear tyres and a clutch in a three month period I now run no more than 10 psi and the motor has lasted as good as any NA motor. It's now about six years since I built it up so that speaks heaps for the cast eutectic pistons. BTW it also runs standard conrods. I've just bought an 2.5 litre STi motor, but replaced the hypereutectic pistons with CP forged pistons. The guy I bought the motor from had just destroyed one of these pistons in another motor. If you want to run mid-range boost, IMHO 1.3 bar or less then you can probably get by OK with stock pistons. I like to run 1.5 to 1.7 bar boost on my turbos and usually install forgies as a matter of course.Running 10lb or less boost I wouldn't bother changing the pistons.Brian Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/12222-pistons-rods-and-other-internal-bits/page/2/#findComment-152715 Share on other sites
