My understanding is that it takes about 4 hours for TWO people to fit the springs and you require a specific tool.

2.5 hours, unless you get stuck on the back one. IN 3 & 1/4 hours we fitted mine plus the injectors & new in-tank pump. This included 30 minute search around the cross member looking for a injector clip.

So, at a $880 fixed price it could be a nice money earner for someone who has the tool, and I had heard that APS had the job down to 2 hours with 2 people... if you do a job enough times you can get very quick at it.

I think a lot of people are doing this that don't need it done. I haven't heard of anyone yet damaging an engine because of a soft valve spring. Also I've witnessed a mushy valve spring situation, and it did not cause a problem.... maybe if it happens once then apply the fix. Ford have been applying spring upgrades over the past 18 months, and you'd expect by now that they are getting closer to a better quality.

We've been conditioned to think that it is a mandatory upgrade.

However, I'll qualify that by saying IHMO it should be done for anything over 280rwks, based on what I've seen.

If you think you feel more comfortable by having the springs replaced then have it done.

My thoughts.

Whilst I am only running 273 rwkw I was happy to have the valve springs done for my own POM. That said if I was having them done now I think there is a case to screw harder on the price given improved efficiency due to the "rare as rocking horse Sh#t" tool

one week after installation and I am pleased to say I am still very happy with the results....Have looked at doing some exhaust modifications now to achieve somewhere around 250rwkw..I've been told that knocking the catalytic converters guts out with the current set up I should achieve 260 rwkw after a retune .dont know how true this is but going to borrow a modified cat to find this out...

Why not just buy a higher flowing cat?

In using a bodged up stock cat you will ruin one of the things that makes the unichip and attractive buy, the ADR compliance.
