Whilst I was at Sandown on the weekend, I had a chat with a number of Ford Execs. Don't hold your breath for a Series 2. I think this is a marketing strategy especially as it was explained to them that the shape of the car doesn;t need to be changed, the XR range is powering on but the XT is suffering with sales to private buyers, and the Barra should be evolution not revolution.

A Series 2 will also hurt resale of the existing range. I think you may find that more options become available and there are more factory bonuses or 'specials' such as the old Sapphire, Olympic Edition etc.

Lets hope so. I have my T on order (should be 3/4 weeks away) and I would be absolutely spewing, big time if they released a series II mid/late

next year. Especially if they revised the bonnet with vents and a 5 Speed Auto or 6 Speed Man.

The resale value as you state will be a killer if you plan to upgrade every 2-3 years. From what I have read here and seen on the market there are quite a few up for sale less $10K from RRP. Hopefully it is only a short term trend and it becomes a true legend, cult car that we all know it should.

There will always be, with no matter what brand or type of car you buy, or any product for that matter, a revised series update or a new model introduced further down the track, it's the way manufacturers work.

If you are worried about the series 2 then wait, but once you by that series 2 you'll be scared about the series 3. From what I've heard there's a BA II facelift due in 2004, and it will get here when it does, in the meantime I'll enjoy my series 1 while you worry warts putt around in whatever you are currently driving.

SEIZE THE MOMENT!!!

Indeed. Noone would every buy cars if this was a major concern because the next one is always the latest and greatest. Same as buying a computer, I guess.

Having said that though, I am waiting for Series 2 but purely because late 2004/early 2005 is when I want to buy my next vehicle...nice goal to aim for.

Improvements might be better handled as running changes, eg alloy heads on 6 cyl XDs, 4sp autos on EAs - rear power windows on BA XTs anyone?

Calling something series 2 is great for those getting them, but by implication the series 1 vehicles are the "old model" and affects resale accordingly.

My 'guess' is that Series 2 will come in conjunction with Territory. Think of it like this - Territory comes out and at the same time BA gets a bit of a tuck and trimjob to keep the 'range' all fresh and new looking.

They don't have to do much to the BA - it's a damn fine car as it stands and really only would get the 'facelift' becuase they can.. They don't need to change suspension, crank up engine outputs etc ....

What they do need to do and quickly is drop the weight out of the car. This alone should be enough reason for a series II (lite non-porker edition..)

Ahhh, I want mine now, the leader of the oppositon has approved the purchase but then I hear a reliable whisper of a series II not too far away. Inclusions are a 6 speed manual with lower ratios. Another rumour was a FPV XR6T with 280kw. IF anyone has any info pleease post as the check book s burning in the pocket.
