Trumpy What's happening? Lifetime Members 1,605 Member For: 22y 26d Gender: Male Location: Steel City, NSW Posted 18/11/03 10:15 PM Share Posted 18/11/03 10:15 PM I think trying to draw parallels between the series 1 time of the AU and the BA is a little difficult. The styling of the AU was not widely applauded by the public or the media, therefor there was significant motivation for a series 2 to address styling issues, and try to increase flagging sales. The BA on the other hand, appears to be going gangbusters for ford, prompting Expensive Daewoo into an early series 2.There is a lot of money spent to develop a new model (even a series update), and you would think that it would be wise to market an existing model as long as possible before the outlay of an update, especially seeing as the current model is selling well as is.A series update is to stimulate fresh interest in the model, and you could hardly say that interest in the BA is waning.Remember the bug eye Impreza? The model only lasted 2 years (with an update between the 2 years) , which is an unusually short model life for a Japanese manufacturer. The update came early because the model was not the success that they had hoped for, and a major update was needed to appeal to the public eye. Maybe the VZ Late model camira will prompt Ford into action. In terms of the Impreza, the model is updated each and every year. The MY04 model got colour coded bodykit and seat belt minder over the MY03. They do it every year but I wouldn't say they were major changes. Even MY02 to MY03 was only front end styling and VVT on the engine + some minor dash and trim enhancements. But this is not about Subaru so I'll leave it at that. My T with a presently incorrectly tuned stage 1 UNICHIP whooped one last Sunday down the freeway. I know he was trying because he stayed (slowly fading) in the rear view mirror to about 220 (irresponsible I know, but 11.30pm on a clear long straight). Pity about the speed limiter, mine starts to miss at about 240kph.Anyway if FPV don't do something pretty quickly, those Monaros will embarass them again at the next Bathurst 24hour

I wonder how they would have done with the factory 350ci engines???? I am patient enough to wait for a series 2, hoping all the little bugs are sorted out and maybe a new gearbox. Sales success. Why change the formula whilst the cars are still running out the door.

I am asking this because I dont know whether to wait for series II or not??

I am asking this because I dont know whether to wait for series II or not?? I think this would depend on the following factors:1. Price of the BA2 (likely to go up slightly)2. Equipment of the BA2 (new gearboxes are likely to hurt resale of BA1)3. Any large discounting of BA1 on change over to BA2.In relation to point 3, Ford is already offering discounting on XT ($3,000 worth of free goodies) and is offering Driveaway pricing on high end models. Depends on the above factors.I am waiting for series 2 as it is too close to call now whether to buy BA1 or wait for BA2. I choose to wait.Oh and is doing the same for the Focus (ie offering mid spec model for base model price).
