Diesel by production process has a higher oil composition so I would presume that the filter would be be designed to handle this not suree of actual composition but I might buy one and cut it open to see what it's made of. As we are only talking miniscule amounts of oil particles mixed in the air I don't see a problem unless your motor is completely stuffed. I have'nt changed my fuel filter in my 4x4 for years. Also most cars are stationary for probably 50% of the day and I think you'll find that any oil will settle in the bottom of the filter. IMOIt will be interesting to see how mick's test turn out. If it works OK it would be a cheap throw away and replace option. It's worth experimenting with.

Guest EXR24T Guests Posted 11/08/04 07:03 AM Share Posted 11/08/04 07:03 AM what do you all think of this oil air seperator used on air lines as a possible catch can mod .( it has no air flow restriction at low pressure either !!) . pic 1. Guest EXR24T Guests Posted 11/08/04 11:08 AM Share Posted 11/08/04 11:08 AM G'day Bloan BA , I reackon so brother . we use these on our air lines at work so I say your on the money . one of my concerns with this device is wether it is able to be utilised in the engine bay due to high temp's !! I will make an inquiry with the suppliers in regards to this . will post more info when avaliable ! all the best EXR24T.

Guest Big Mick Guests Posted 11/08/04 09:17 PM Share Posted 11/08/04 09:17 PM Alright, I have connected a fuel filter inline with the breather tube from the rocker cover to the inlet in the crossover as per EXR24T's mod and it is now running as an experiment. I did a number of pressure readings (with the engine at wide open throttle while driving) prior to fitting the filter and then once the filter was installed and there was no noticable difference with the filter in place.I will retest again in a week or so as the filter will surely provide a greater restriction as it does it's job with the oil vapour.Out of interest I reckon the filter was slightly darker in colour just from the testing I did with it.EXR24T, I also thought about the industrial oil/air separators but dismissed them as I thought they would be too expensive and may not work well at our low vacuum levels. A lot of them are designed for compressed air at 600+kPa. It will be interesting to see what you come up with.Mick

Just thought you might be interested in seeing its construction. Anyone got any ideas as to why they come so big when blow by produces only small amounts of oil.
