Oil Air Seperator Modification

I will retest again in a week or so as the filter will surely provide a greater restriction as it does it's job with the oil vapour.

Out of interest I reckon the filter was slightly darker in colour just from the testing I did with it.

EXR24T, I also thought about the industrial oil/air separators but dismissed them as I thought they would be too expensive and may not work well at our low vacuum levels. A lot of them are designed for compressed air at 600+kPa.

It will be interesting to see what you come up with.

The bigger the area inside with the ss wool the more chance of oil mist gettin trapped I would think?

Ok l did some reading on these Microfliters and what they say is

You can also get them in 1/4 & 1/8 sizes too.

The supplier is FESTO

Now what they do is remove almost all of even the smallest water and oil droplets as well as dirt particles from compressed air. It also has an automatic drain vavle that you can attach to it and run it down the engine bay.

What my question is will these MICROFILTERS do the job for what we are after?

Quick update on the fuel filter mod.

After almost a week of driving (including about 7 runs at Heathcote) there is now a drop of oil in the bottom of the filter. OK it doesn't sound much but hey, my engine isn't using any oil anyway.

My dipstick hasn't popped out so there can't be a lot of pressure in the crankcase.

This is looking promising at this stage!

Oh and I cleaned the existing oil from the crossover and piping to the inlet of the turbo prior to Heathcote. So it will be interesting to see if this returns after a few weeks.

I could see no reason why it would'nt work when I discussed it with you in earlier posts. Whre did you mount it and how did you connect it all up

Yeah, yeah you told me so...

It's a bit rough macka, but I'm not entering in any shows. I'll post a pic and a list of the parts I used later in the week.

Total cost was around $18, but you will have to replace the filter at a regular intervals (to be determined).

:spoton: Big Mick does'nt matter what it looks like as long as it does the job. I would'nt be holding my breath till you haveto change filters. :thumbsup:

Now that you know it works you can make a pretty one. Can I suggest that you go to a 4x4 wreckers and check out a Nissan or Mitsubish Diesel engine. Buy the bracket that bolts on to the head and also the filter head. As these filters are a reasonable size probably holds a litre, should'nt have to change very often. Maybe every 12 months I reckon maybe even longer

Go down to any auto parts shop buy a new filter. As these have a metal case you can sand and repaint. Connect up to your breather hoses and you should have a neat looking Air/Oil seperator

PS Mitsubishi filters are probably cheaper
