The Expensive Daewoo equivalent of the XR8 is the SS right? Is the Pursuit the equivalent of the base Maloo or the R8?2. What is the difference between the Maloo and the R8 exactly? Are they worth the extra? 3. Are there any articles on the net about the Pursuit Vs R8?4. Is there a board out there like this one that is Expensive Daewoo based? I would like to read about the XR Vs Maloo from their side too. Thanks! Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/12187-ford-vs-holden-ute/ Share on other sites

When I was decideing on a ute the R8 was quite abit more expensive than the standard maloo as bigger brakes and rims plus a really nice leather interior. While the R8 would be no match for a modified T ute like I have now they do have some nice incentives to buy one at the moment.Costs $260 a week for 2 years with free serviceing and free comprehensive insurance which would usually be about $4000 a year.Free car wash then hand it over in 2 years and get a new one.Not a bad deal I think as my insurance under business use only costs a bomb.I do like the HSV wheels and brake set up as well.Wonder if I could order a R8 with a T motor,Now then you would be cooking. Scotty,The differences between the standard and R8 is that you get different wheels, trim, brakes and a hard cover and spoiler is standard. The engine and driveline are exactly the same, not worth the extra money in my opinion. But why bother with a v8 when you can have a blown 6!!!!!. The cabin is smaller than the XR/FPV and you will have zero room behind the seat. At least the Ford has 400mm of spare room (unless the seat is right back and touching the window!Holdens have coil springs and IRS which is a big bonus, but for some reason they don't deomstrate that they have any more grip or handling advantage over the XR/FPV which still run the leafs springs! Most people I tell can't believe that the XR has leafs, because it rides so smooth and has bags of grip!In my opinion, the Holdens aren't real utes, they are two door sedans with limited traction and good looks. The Fords are real utes with tonnes of traction and way more street cred, especially the XR8 with the bulge. As for performance, expect the Turbo to be the fastest on average out of the SS and XR8. Ofcourse the SS offers over 400hp with a tune and exhaust as does the Turbo, but the turbo will always have a massive torque advantage. The XR8 has potential but not for anywhere near as good a value as the other two.The Pursuit is by far the quickest in stock form of them all. Even the 285kw Malloo is still slower by a decent margin, something like 0.3sec. This is because of traction, but once again the Maloo shares the same advantage of being able to offer easy HP with bolt ons for less money. Ofcourse it costs more than the Pursuit does to start with.In summary, the Turbo will yield the best value by a very large margin. Next would be the SS, then the Pursuit, then the Maloo and finally the XR8, which is a fairly unusually placed model. I'd pick the F250, heaps of room, grunt & as intimidating as f*ckScotty Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/12187-ford-vs-holden-ute/#findComment-151522 Share on other sites

BRENCH Member 11 Member For: 21y 1m 12d Posted 07/08/04 12:37 AM Share Posted 07/08/04 12:37 AM I was in a similar boat to you once upon a time I think there are advantages either way.Maloo is now 285KW and the R8 Has the same motor with standard hardcover with wing, better wheels, leather interior and a few other little bits. The cab in the Ford utes is a hell of alot bigger having the space cab design but I hate how the style side tray is still seperate to the cab and that they pre drill the holes for the soft cover and then just put metal caps in to fill the holes, very dodgy. Also looking at my mates persuit, they don't linish the rear hinges for the tailgate which is a bit slack for such a dear ute. I don't thing the Persuit looks different enough to a XR8 I mean compare a SS to a Maloo R8 MASSIVE DIFFERENCE!!!!I bought a XR6T and I am happy with. Its preferance more than anything Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/12187-ford-vs-holden-ute/#findComment-151791 Share on other sites
