Instead of having fridge magnets from FordXR6Turbo.com,why dont we get a catchcan made for us ?We all need..WANT one,if we orderd 3000 off some mobb made out of polished alloy ,made specifically for the T,what could it cost

What do ya reckon???

You fund the initial run of 3000 then Hoot...cost would be a damn sight more than a few fridge magnets :blink:

How come it has taken us nearly 2 years to figure out we need it. It sounds like it would actually make a difference on hard driven cars. Is this the case or is it a mod we dont really need.

Its taken 2 years for the cars to dip consistently into the 12's, there are a lot more fella's like yourself, big mick, white tee, xr6ikness that are regulary drag racing, so you are pushing your cars a lot harder than, say, myself and probably the majority of owners. I dont drive my turbo hard, and I havent increased turbo pressure as yet, so I wont see the benefit of running a catch can like you modded fella's will.

Like I said, I use one on my XC, that motor was never designed to be supercharged at 15psi, and it works a treat. :blink:

I was bored and decided trolling ebay was a good way of killing time and found a catch can.

EDIT: The same shop has another (same) catch can auction with a Buy It Now price of $60.

That looks the same as the one I saw at autobarn for $69.95.

Would that do the job. What size would tubes would we need ?

Im not sure what size you fella's will need for the Turbo engine, but I am currently debating what size lines I should run on my XC. It is either 4 x DASH 12 pipes (.66inch ID) or 2 x DASH 16 (.88inch ID). I am debating because DASH fittings with braided lines are ectremely expensive! :lol:

They are bloody big pipes, but then again, it is a 374ci engine with 15psi or so, spinning to 6000rpm on the rollers...... so its a bloody big capacity engine.

Me personally, my opinion of that pic of that catch can, those fitting are waaay to small. The Turbo engine is a big engine, that can will suit 4 cyl's quite well, not turbo 6's.

I am happy to be shot down with technical reasons why that particular can will suffice, but I thought the breather lines were bigger on the T engine than the fittings on that particular catch can......

I went to Autobarn tonight and the one they have $69 is similar looking to the one in the pic above except it didn't have a level tube and get this, it had one outlet at the top of can and one at the bottom. I can't see how it would work properly because the bottom hole would eventually fill with oil?????

Also there is nothing inside the can, I suppose that you could fill it with metal gauze if required as it does have a big screw lid on the top (as per the picture above).

The one in the picture is definately better than the one at Autobarn, provided both the breather connections are at the top of the tank.

Hey Mick, does your can have anything inside it (ie. baffle or gauze)??

Oh, and have a look at the current size of the breather line on the T and you'll be surprised as to how small it is.

Here's another thought about were to vent the catch can.

Why could it not be vented back to thefuel purge canister. any oil that goes back will be mixed with fuel vapour and eventually back to the fuel tank, a little drop of oil back there would'nt hurt.

Have a look HERE. Its a link off V8owners.com to a link off somewhere else. Its a different solution to the problem. What are peoples thoughts. I believe that the person who did this has a very quick LS1.

That is a really interesting idea, might be worth a try as I reckon the existing T breather hose would just about fit straight over the connections on the fuel filter. How much are fuel filters worth (one very 2 months)?? Also I wonder how well they flow air, if it causes a restriction can this be harmful to the engine?

One point of clarification though... Our problem is not neccessarily with the PCV valve as indicated in the article, as the one on the T is plumbed to the inlet manifold and thus can't pull oil through the turbo or the intercooler. Also, the PCV valve should only be open under vacuum, a condition that exists almost always on an NA car but not on a Turbo (or for that matter a supercharged engine). On the T once the engine starts making boost the PCV valve (if it's functioning correctly) should close, thus preventing the boost pressure from entering the crankcase.

As always please correct me if anything I have said is incorrect..
