It’s not official yet but Expensive Daewoo have decided to offer the Calais with a 260kw version of the Ls1. The monaro will have the same figure but for the first time the SS will be the lesser spec powered car in their line up.

The Calais is being directed to a sports/lux segment.

The move started with Vy Series two with a great push towards sport and away from comfort. It has continued by pushing power levels above the SS.

I too think FORD are doing it right...not too many changes is a steady and safe approach besides they know they are on a good thing with the BA so why change for the sake of it. (especially with the XR models). Well that was my 2 cents worth. Will be keenly waiting to see what FPV do in the near future as I will be contemplating a change into a GT.

I'm sure I remember Brian saying a T56 is about 80kg heavier than T5. :w00t2:

Ross, that was 20kg.

Yeah, but seriously is this what people buy a Calais for ... as opposed to an SS ... I can't imagine seeing many LS1 tweaked Calais at WSID ...

I mean good on them I guess ... it would seem as though the eternal my car has more kw then yours marketing is full steam ahead ...

I mean Expensive Daewoo are giving away their Clubsports for less than 50k so they must be great :w00t2:

I mean if I was looking for a Luxo Sports Cruiser it wouldn't be a Calais (or a Fairmont Ghia) probably more like a 2nd hand BMW or the such ...

All interesting, but a threat to the BA I doubt it ... I mean they still have no Turbo Six ... until maybe VE I hear so still think they are clutching at straws to stop Ford from being very profitable ... I mean I have been told they make less Falcons than Commodores a month so how can Ford ever beat them ... but if they are way in the Black its good for us all ... :)

Cheers, Jason.

It's a smart upgrade that gives more value for money but doesn't devalue the existing model.

About bloody time....it is almost BMW inspired :)

Good one Ford

Hear Hear Plonky! Subtle changes improve the overall 'feel' of the car but retaining an obvious link to the earlier model. Afterall it is only a refresh NOT a new model.

Personally I like the idea its not a huge AUI --> AUII --> AUIII jumps in specs.

Now the 2007ish model sounds a real corker!

Sounds like a good move to me, an nice all round tourer with the extra cred of being the top of the tree. The Ghia needs to get the turbo motor, that would be an awesome package. :smilielol: and would become a real option to the Euro's.

l still reckon ford have done too little. The Expensive Daewoo marketing machine will crank right up when the new model is available and everyone will know about its (alledgedley) superior engine, 5 speed auto, 300kw+ HSV models etc. That will have to hurt Fords sales. If they also manage to pull of COTY then that will be the icing for Holden.

l hope they improve the quality, and although everyone is sick of me saying it, finally address the poor driveline. If they simply add the t56 and stick with the same pathetic clunk driveline, then whats the point?
