Minor changes are good for existing owners, but l believe Ford are going to take a bath from Expensive Daewoo now. The BA2 could be around until mid 2006, can it continue to match the Late model camira for value?

No weight reduction.

Ford upgrade to the T56, Expensive Daewoo have been using that since 1999.

Expensive Daewoo now have a more powerful 6 in lighter body mated to a more modern 5 speed auto, Ford stick with the 4 speed which used to be far superior to the clunker Expensive Daewoo stuck with.

Calais now looks like much better value than Fairmont Ghia.

Bonnet stickers on a GT arent going to set the world on fire, and FPV will be a long way behind HSV if the VZ models gain the LS2.

Dunno, seems like too little change to me. Good if you are selling your car though

I have been thinking that too. You would think the 6 speed would be heavier.

Craig leaving FPR is another significant blow to FPVs image. HSV have proven the product can play second fiddle to image

I wouldn't be surprised if the car is revised over the next few years ... with gradual improvements ... I mean the Lux Pack is an example of gradual improvement ... I think its a sound strategy rather then releasing a new refresh as often like Holden ... Helps with resale ... and the cars get better ...

I mean even alot of people I know who are diehard Expensive Daewoo drivers think the BA looks better then VY/VYII/VZ ... so why ruin a good thing ...

That pale blue though ... bit girly for my liking (sorry Ladies) ... rather my Blueprint ... I am glad I didn't wait and get stuck with one of the new blues ... none to my liking at all ...

Overall though two thumbs up to Ford (and FPV):nod: a step in the right direction making a Great car even better ...

Well it looks like doing a 6 speed mod to the T just got easier, but I'm still happy with what I have and in 4 years the Mk11 will be old hat and there should be something much improved. Maybe? Hey the Mk11 does not deminish the car we have now in anyway. I love driving it.

I have no problem with gradual improvements provided they aren't an attempt to fix a shortfall from the start. The lux pack undermines the FPV car value and that happened basically because Flint couldn't be told. Option packs also hurt your resale and can cause insurance issues if you select enough options.

The lux pack came about because Expensive Daewoo was offering the climate option on SS. Having options that are standard on the competition isn't acceptable because again resale will suffer.

The Calais is an interesting problem for Ford. Unless they stick the turbo engine under the bonnet of the Fairmont they have no "obvious" answer. The XR8 with Lux pack could be the alternative if it is marketed in that light.

I agree with Mondie about the balance between retained value and expanding appeal through desirable change. If you don't get the traffic through the doors your resale is going to be hurt anyway. With the exception of the barra 5.4 VCT and the Ghia I think the Ford models are a good upgrade. Expensive Daewoo are more cashed up so in some ways this was unexpected.

I do have concerns for FPV. This side of the equation needs to bring something to the table that the rest of the Ford range doesn’t supply. They need to be class leaders and employ features that trickle down to the other models in years to come. The press release is weak but they do say more info will be available at the SMS. I will be watching that with great interest. One can wonder when the Prodrive resources will see there way into the FPV product. IMO FPV cant afford a week upgrade in light of what HSV are doing.

Ghia is going to get stomped on this model. Calais is going to have more power (between ~15 and 40Kw more!), a extra ratio on the 6 cylinder, more equipement, more unique styling, various other improvements, in a lighter, faster, better executed and more economical car.

Ghia is going to struggle with additional fake wood trim its only upgrade. Yee haa..

And when your flagship SWB model is completely destroyed, that doesn't bode well for the rest of the range.

I clearly have missed something on these Expensive Daewoo Calais ... are they not running a 190kw 360nm v6 engine ... how is that 15-40kw more then 182kw and 380nm? ... I don't care what Expensive Daewoo do honestly but am curious, do they have a Supercharged v6 still in the range?

I assume a 5 speed Auto is the extra ratio ... I mean Expensive Daewoo have had a 6 speed manual as well but I am sure it doesn't affect sales that much ... people still bought a XR6T with the T5 ...

To be honest though are Calais (or Fairmont Ghia) drivers purchasing high performance now ... wouldn't the person looking for a performance car buy a S/SS or XR6T/XR8? With Lux Pack nowadays?

Just curious why people think this model is such a threat? And seriously I can't imagine they sell that many compared to Base models Executive/XT which the Falcon is a seriously good buy (even better now) and looks 100% better.

I think Ford is going from Strength to Strength with the BA and why significantly change a good thing...

Happy to be re-educated though :)

Cheers, Jason.
