I played it for about an hour and I need a bloody break. certainly the most atmospheric game I've played. I was practically shaking while playing it. I know it's only a game, but geeez, the atmosphere and the scariness is unbelievable. In terms of graphics I am seriously impressed. My athlon XP 3000+ and GeForce FX 5950 Ultra (overclocked) seems to be coping quite well. I have played Far Cry (actually bought it a few weeks ago) which is a damn good game in it's own right (Especially in multiplayer), but to get real scared doom 3 does the job quite well. My recomendation would be that people with pace makers (*looks at Ken and waits for the back hand* ) should stay away from Doom 3, but if you have the ticker I highly recommend it. The atmosphere is just so unbelievable. on the box, what is the "minimum" specs and the "recommended" specs?so people can get an idea... (reson I ask is cause I bought Halo on PC, the recommended specs suggested that my computer was easily good enough, yet it runs at like 2FPS... sucked ass Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/12083-doom-3/page/3/#findComment-150143 Share on other sites

What KRASH has said is true, it is very scary.OWNA6RXT - I usually only like killing people in games too, that's the reason I have never played half life, but Doom3 is well worth playing even if there is demons in it. I have jumped out my seat heaps of times already and I have only played for 2 hours or so, its challenging also.Jep - The minimum box specs are:3D Hardware:- 100% DirectX 9.0b compatible 64MB video card with the latest drivers.Windows 2000/XP only.Pentium IV 1.5 GHz or Athlon XP 1500+ processor or higher.384MB Ram2.2GB hard drive space.100% DirectX 9.0b sound card and latest driversI have a p4 2800 with 512 ram and a gforce 4 TI - 4600 (I think might be a 4200). The game runs fine and doesnt slow, that's on medium detail graphics at 800X620 resolution. It still looks amazing on medium graphics.I have also just incountered a part in the game where I need to get a code, I couldnt find it so I read some files I picked up along the way and figured out you need to log onto a internet site that is tied in with the game to get the code from there. AWESOME STUFF. Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/12083-doom-3/page/3/#findComment-150182 Share on other sites

It's pretty damn smooth.I decided to install it on my lower end PC, for multi player purposes). The lowend system I have is Athlon 1.33Ghz processor and a GeForce 4 Ti4400 (cpu well below the minimum spec, but gfx card about middle of the pack). I run it at 1024x768 with Medium detail setting and it's playable. Not absolutly smooth, a little jerky at times, but no where near unplayable. Even if your specs are right at the limit of the minimum specs I can't really see too much wrong with trying it out. Lower detail settings are possible and turning off shadows (bad idea, will ruin atmosphere) could make the game play smoother on lower systems. That's an awesome setup for this game Latest drivers would probably help. The readme states quite a few times that latest drivers should be installed. the readme says: "Shift Key in Windows® 2000/XP Interrupts GameIf you press the Shift key 5 times consecutively in Windows® 2000 or Windows® XP the following message should appear:"Maybe the problem.Just a note that it seems that Doom 3 was tweaked for the Nvidia range of cards. Some benchmarks show that there is quite a bit of an improvement in terms of fps, whereas in other games (far cry etc) the radeons kick butt.A fresh pair of undies are a must if you want to play this game.... It get's bloody scarier the further you go. I'm gonna have nightmares for sure. I'm almost reluctent to load the game up again, cause I'm worried about what's around the corner. Nothing beats pure atmosphere. Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/12083-doom-3/page/3/#findComment-150306 Share on other sites

I just got the chain gun, I wont say anymore than that though just incase I spoli it, but if you have the chaingun then you know what is happening. The game directed me to another internet site which is giving a few clues. My wife snuck up behind me and grabbed my neck when I was playing with my headphones on, that was 4 hours ago and I am still to scared to play it, and I have never been scared by a movie/game ever. Donating Members 1,199 Member For: 21y 5m 18d Location: Sydney Posted 03/08/04 09:20 PM Share Posted 03/08/04 09:20 PM awesome game....For any of u who need to be sold or care about the game here is some screen shootsThe game saves screensshots as some dodgy file that can only be viewed by doom3. You have to get a 3rd party converter to save the files into a jpegThese were in 1024 x 768 and 2x anti aliasing, that is as well as I can run it before my computer will die. I actually had server troubles at this level when I meet more then 3 or 4 pplAnyway take a look, buy a new computer and have some fun :lol:enjoyscreenshots to follow...
