I think to much emphasis is put on the performance of these cars when people are deciding which is the best. Let's face it, they are BOTH great cars. I know the T is supposed to be a bees dick quicker on the quarter and the 8 gets quicker and more powerful the more k's are on it but here is something to think about. I once read an article on guys who totally wreck their once great handling road car and make it great on the 1/4 but an absolute pig anywhere else. Why make it into that for the 2% of the time you will actually use it on the strip when the rest of the time you are on the road? I think you have to look at what you will mostly be doing in your car/ute to see which is the best.

For me, I am going to choose the XR8 ute. I love the growl! I love the bonnet bulge! The low down GRUNT of an 8! These are all must haves for me. I do really like turbo's (I had a highly modified 200sx) though but for the time I would use that 0.3 or so on the 1/4 am I prepared to go without the note of the 8 or look out over that bonnet every time I drive it? No way! The turbo would be a lot of fun and has better tuning potential but I would always be a jealous of the big 8.

These are all just my opinions guys! I'm sure some of you guys love the sleek lines of your T and the blow off valve just as much :)

I've got to agree with you about the sound of a V8. This is my first turbocharged car and until I brought this car I would normally agreed with you 100%. :spoton:

I must say that the torque of the 4.0Lt six combined with the turbo is pretty close to the V8 in stock form. Put a chip in it and the V8 seems slow when the extra boost kicks in. It excelarates that fast that you really don't get time to appreciate it. Your to busy grabbing another gear.

There's nothing like that turbo rush when it kicks in. :3gears:

The one thing that I will agree 100% with, is that their both great cars.

THEIR BOTH FORDS

I have been in both and I was so excited to get a ride in the turbo but came away disapointed. It accelerated very well but it felt totally unexciting, I can only guess due to the flat torque curve which causes it to accelerate the same at 2000rpm as at 5000rpm. So in this sense it didn't feel like acceleration, just increasing of speed. Does that make any sense? It was a brand new car so perhaps this has something to do with it. The 8 on the other hand felt faster and more inspiring, and I am a import turbo fan. Has anyone else felt the same as this? Having said this I was also disappointed with the VYII Clubsport I went in. The most inspiring car I have ever been in is a fairly stock 20B Cosmo (Twin Turbo, Triple Rotor Rotary).

P.s. I am not downing the T, I plan on getting one as soon as I can afford one.

I feel that the Constant push in the back the T gives is much more exciting to drive than the monaro I was in recently.

I have never been in an XR8 to compare. The torque down low in the makes it a very fun car to drive even at slower speeds where the same G force rush isnt felt in the 8 until you get going at 5000+ rpms.

There is a fairly recent thread on this topic HERE, have been following this with interest because if I did the whole thing again, I'd probably go the 8 for no reason other than the stronger gearbox. (The sound would just be a HUGE bonus!)
