This morning my I had this conversation with my Service Adviser (SA)...

SA: You had driver-induced fault codes which we cleared.

Dr Z: What does that mean?

SA: It shows the application of wide-open throttle, do you give it a bit?

Dr Z: My missus drove the car last weekend while I was working. :danceforme:

SA: Does she give it some?

Dr Z: Huge lead-foot! :glad:

...

1. OK, so what are the implications of driver-induced fault codes? For example, can Dealers hassle you about warranty issues?

2. Do you get driver-induced fault codes? If so, is it a problem for you?

3. Do driver-induced fault codes cause any problems elsewhere?

4. How does it register? By measuring the wide-open throttle or when instantaneous fuel goes to 99.9km/hr? *whistles*

5. Most importantly, for all the modified cars out there, especially that run strips regularly, is there anything in particular that concerns you about driver-induced fault codes?

Look forward to being enlightened by all the gurus out there. :glad:

Safe and happy driving...Dr Z. :k24t:

I would not think that fault codes could be used to void any warranty, unless it can be proven by Ford that you were dropping the clutch at 5,500rpm and then tried to claim warranty on a new clutch.

I drive my car hard and have never had any comment from my service department about user caused fault codes, usually I tell them about a problem and then they come back with No fault codes = no fault found :danceforme:

I have heard of fault codes relating to speed limiter and rev limiter. Maybe theres one for wide open throttle for long periods. Not saying that this is what you've been doing to your car Dr Z.

I've hit the rev limiter on my way up to the speed limiter, where I sat with full throttle for about 30 seconds...(more than once...)

No fault codes reported to me.

Flogged it round the track and had the T go into "Me oils to Hot!" limp mode.

No comments from the service dept.

Bout the only thing they say to me is "When are you going to put a chip in??"

Complained about in crunching into 5th when changing from 4th at 5600 rpm.

"could not replicate fault....in the city" was thier reply.

Dr Z,

You raise a very important point regarding warranty issues.

If this kind of fault code is possible, this could lead to the dreaded "driver abuse/modifications" flag being placed on the records of your vehicle.

This would effectively provide Fomoco with a nice out on warranty claims.

Can't wait to hear whether this is actually possible.

Cheers

I think my car would have had as hard a time as any on the forum. At some early services I think it might have had an over boost fault code logged. I've never been told of any others. I have had a few things (minor and major) replaced under warrenty and never had a problem. Hope this helps.

Geea. :glad:

I'm scared now, maybe I had better refrain from pushing the clutch all the way to the floor in case I get a fault code. And now I am going to have to put up with a 30 metre turning circle in case I log a fault code on full lock.

Good grief.... spare me!

Lucky I am not a big fat bas*ard and can get in the car without opening the door fully.

MoFo, you have done it again.
