Where's the C16 option for fuel, he he kidding. Anything less than 98ron fuel is just torturing your T. I use BP ultimate because it seems to burn cleaner with less soot than Optimax and haven't had a problem yet.

Maniac - Any engine mods?

On a recent 1,500k round trip with mostly highway driving (100/110ish or so... :spoton: ) I averaged around 10.5 on vortex. On the return trip following the same route I averaged 10.8 running on optimax.

No Engine Modifications at all.

Again, I tend to agree with Antony, most of what he is saying is true.

Just because Ford recommend 95 Ron fuel, doesnt mean that it's the best fuel to use.

98 Ron does give more power, more economy.

Remember that a powerful and intelligent engine like the Barra's benefit from higher octane fuel. The wear and tear is much less as well.

We have many times stuck a plug up the T' ass and checked the immitions of the vehicle and we have found that not only is 98 Ron fuel cleaner and leaner, but it makes the car idle a lot better then 95 Ron Fuel.

Keep in mind, ford base their statistics for fuel upon their whole "Falcon Class". Perhaps on an XT 95 Ron fuel is better but not for our Turbo cars.

Their have been many threads regarding this. Just do a search on google and you will see many people have proven statistics to back their accusations and comments.

In my opinion, a good car runs 98 Ron fuel, you would be crazy not to pay a few cents more for fuel which not only makes your car perform better but run cleaner for the enviroment as well as your engine.

It's predicted that by 2010 Unleaded won't be available and the people who will have it available will charge an arm and a leg for it. A lot of the big key corporate companies like Mobil, Caltex, Shell and BP etc are encouraging people to use Premium Unlead or their "Optimax / BP Ultimate / Synergy fuel".

Caltex, will soon have a 98 / 99 RON Fuel called "Vortex Platinum". Don't ask how I know but the person who told me is a reliable source! This is expected to hit by the end of the year.

All in all, I have owned many cars and so has my father, from sh*tty old Datsuns to Audi S4's, BMW m3's and Mercedez S600 and all these cars have the most intelligent engines with the dealers saying "Use 95 Ron Fuel". Upon usin 98 RON Fuel, not only has efficiency been better, the car's performed a lot better and saved a lot of headaches with engine problems etc.

Then again, if you use 105 RON Fuel, your engine will stuff up on you and your catalystic converter will just die. I have a friend who used it in his R32 GTR (which was highly modified) and he struggled to use it (he had no cat left after using it though). I doubt you will ever seen 105 RON Fuel advertised anywhere but some service stations do you have it for around $1.50 a litre. The car performs nearly twice as good as Optimax - imagine that? ;)

George

I posted the following to Ford Australia...

Giday

I'm hoping that someone can shed some light on this.

Ford stipulates pulp 95ron as the recommended fuel in a T. However, does

the standard factory on-board computer in the XR6T detect the difference

between 95/96/97/98 ron? If so, does it mix/burn it differently?

Thanks in advance

Brenton

:spoton: Talk about a "FOAD" answer. I thought the question was fairly direct and to the point. I suppose what do you expect from a company that apparently listens to their customers.

All in all, I do agree if you run the higher grade fuel there is potential of getting a cleaner burn with less chance of the dreaded ping. Thus leading to the possibility of better fuel economy, maxium power and less wear/tear on the engine.

Problem is that most of us have the fun button firmly planted thru the floor boards ... so any "extra power" im sure is quickly consumed. :spoton:
