I use Optimax and Mobil Synergy. The information I used to come to that decision is from a combination of what I have read on these forums, the offical literature, and e-mails to the petrol companies.

I don't use BP because I have had bad experiences with their fuel in previous vehicles and not a single drop of BP fuel has ever gone in the T, nor will it. I don't use Caltex Vortex because it is only 96 RON. I had no issue putting Caltex fuel in previous vehicles, but the T is smart enough to recognise 98 RON fuel, so why wouldn't I use it?

Safeway, Foodies, Liberty etc.... Not a chance. A mate of mine worked in the petroleum industry for a while. No thanks, I'm not interested in the fuel that was refined in Indonesia then couldn't be sold there, so it was bought cheap and sold here. This is one brand specifically. Not all of their fuel, but certainly some of it.

Shell has more detergents in the fuel which work towards keeping the injectors clean, but I personally think that most Shell fuel, incuding normal ULP is high in Sulphur. That's why I mix in tanks of Mobil, generally three of one, then three of the other. The mobile fuel does seem to leave more black grime on the back of the car, even if it doesn't smell as much. You can always smell a car running on Optimax, it stinks.

I ain't a petro-chemical engineer, so this is just what I have gleened from the info available to me and my experience.

Hope this is of some benefit to you :w00t2:

I split mine fairly evenly between BP Ultimate and Optimax (not a T mind you). The optimax, even in my untuned car, seems to have a bit better throttle response but the idle seems better with Ultimate :beerchug: No Idea.

I've had great economy with Ultimate 13.5Km/L on highway cruise BUT on the last tank I got 11.5Km/L from Optimax. However, how much of that has to do with me getting the hole welded up in my exhaust I don't know :w00t2: and as BA_Turbs said, optimax = :w00t2: Not that any unleaded is much better! BRING BACK AVGAS I SAY!

Personally I wouldn't touch 91 Octane with a Expensive Daewoo tied to the end of a 30foot pole and now even 'Premium' seems to not be good enough :P There is quite a noticeable difference in economy however. Premium it drops to 10-10.5 and regular is apparently around 9 (Never Run it, never will!)

Forgot to mention in the original post where the fuels were manufactured. After reading another thread on this and reading how BP was refined in WA and Mobil and Shell were done in Vic I e-mail ed all three companies.

Thank you to Shell for getting back to me. I believe Mobil is as well as there was some talk of their refinery closing.

This all matters because petrol goes off if left sitting around too long. Dunno how long, but it must factor into it.

Well, now that we've got BP Ultimate here in TSV I'm changing to that. (First fill up last night.)

Before that it was BP or Shell 95 Premium.

My recent XEDE tune by Lok was on Shell premium.

When I mentioned to him that Ultimate was coming to town, he told me that's what he recommends down south.

Agree with you on the BP. Tried it once, the T hated it so never again.

I'd love to hear what the Oil Companies said in the emails you mentioned.

I sent the e-mails a long time ago and haven't got Shell's response anymore. I now have a different e-mail address, so I have sent three more today. If I get a reply, I'll post my e-mails and responses on a new thread.
