I'm sure Ford (just like any other car manufacturer) has quite a few prototype cars they work on during development of new models. Some are painted in prototype colours, others have engine mods and all sorts of test gear bolted on.

Does anyone know what on earth happens to these fully working cars after the test cases have been exhausted? Do some elite employees get to hammer them to the end?

For example, with the Targa 2003 falcons, who owns them now? Or what happened to some of these prototype GT's that were spotted with XR spoilers and painted in XT colours?

Just curious...

Some prototypes from Ford (if I remember correctly) were recently donated to the emergency services so they could be crushed with earthmoving equipment to resemble car wrecks. The emergency services then went to work with the jaws of life to test their recovery skills etc.....

Years ago when they still made Nissans at Clayton, my old man worked there and I did a couple weeks work experience. There was a dumpyard for all the prototype cars - man it was fascinating, all these Japanese models to check out. Different departments would go and raid the dumpyard for a running prototype for them to use as their departmental car to drive around the factory......the dept I was working in had some kind of R30ish 4cyl Skyline from Japan, which I got to drive around the factory....(at 16 mind you) hehehe

Cheers,

Michael..

Yep, they crush them.

It is a requirement under ADR's or some rules that they MUST be destroyed :crybaby:

If they sold them they would be very desirable and command a better price, just like the 428 Cobrajet 1969 Falcon in this months Aussie muscle car

Yep, you see them sitting in the R&D yard at FPV with stickers all over them. This is a non production test vehicle and is to be destroyed and not for road registration or something like that.

There is a yard near Geelong that has a contract to take these test vehicles from ford and destroy them. Not one single part is allowed to be removed by the yard from the cars before they're crushed but I've heard this doesn't always happen.
