Mine returned like clockwork but after the shims and new pads were added, (that lasted, oh, 70 kms), swapped them for QFM brake pads that day. What can I say? They work. No brake shudder since and I've had to rely on my brakes a couple of times to avoid a potential accident.

They wouldn't shudder after a couple of hard stops.

They'd start shuddering after continious stopping.

Most shudder starts when on some spirited braking.

Skimmed and Shimmed @13k, signs of shudder returning @ 24k. Dealer - " Bring it in & we'll re-skim and if the shuddering returns we'll re-skim again and again & when the rotors are too thin we'll replace them and start all over again. Ford Cust. Serv. - " Still looking into the problem however at this point nothing more we can do".

Yeah but also during long trips with a lot of starting and stopping amoungst it all. I had the problem returning every 2-5k before the shims. 2 sets of rotors, the 2nd were machined 3 times? If they are hot enough, a sudden stop could possibly have an impact. Travelling to Ipswich and back can be a very, AHEM, fun adventure....NOT.

Had shims fitted at 5000km.

Since then 2 machinings (4 times all together), now new disc rotors.

At 21000km now, the shudder is back.

Off to the dealer again.

Do you mind telling me what and how engine braking works on a XR6T? sorry I have no idea  :wtf:

Just change down through the gears (4th to 3rd, 3rd to 2nd etc..) and the car will slow down all by itself. It means you don't have to use the brakes very much at all, if you starting shifting early enough. Easily done in manual and, thanks to the SSS, auto.

exactly! thanks for replying on my behalf. Shift worker and not always reading/posting at normal hours.

Mine still shudders after the fix.

Use to last 9,000klm before shuddering, but now lasts 13,000klm with the shim fix.

Piss poor effort from the Ford engineers. If it's a real fix why did they revise the calipers from Oct last year? I believe repeat offenders should be retro fitted with the new calipers, pads & rotors.

Hopefully series 2 ba's wont have that problem and we can all be upgraded to a decent set of brakes.

Good one turbo06. As if Ford are going to retrofit s2 brakes to all s1 cars. I will eat my had the day they do that, and it's a hard hat. Ford have been fitting a 'better' brake setup since Oct 03 and My dealer said that they will not retrofit even this to any older cars, even if the car had been in for shims and still shudders...

Yes, I had it at 15,000 and just 3 weeks ago at 35,000.
