Do you still have brake shudder after they have been shimmed

My brakes started to shudder around the 5000k mark, that was about 15 months ago now, I had the shims put on, and now they are shuddering again 33000k's. How many other people are getting shudder after the shims?

I had the dreaded shudder at 10,000k's.....now at 30000 and no sign of it returning....still going to replace them though as they just don't cut the mustard... :spoton:

It may be returning - a very minor shake down a steep hill on the weekend. First sign of any problem since I had the fix at about 17,000, and I am now up to 31,600.

I have had the dredded shudder issue many times. I have a manual and use engine breaking and don't actually use my brakes that often unless needed. First instance approx 9,000kms 3 other instances before shimed at 35,000 and now second time since at 53,000kms. I don't belive the shims fix this problem.

Machining was the original temporary fix. The shim involved new springs or something to increase the gap between the brake pads and the disc - theory being that the extra heat/friction was eventually causing the disc to warp, hence creating the shudder.

Mine still shudders after the fix.

Use to last 9,000klm before shuddering, but now lasts 13,000klm with the shim fix.

Piss poor effort from the Ford engineers. If it's a real fix why did they revise the calipers from Oct last year? I believe repeat offenders should be retro fitted with the new calipers, pads & rotors.

Do you mind telling me what and how engine braking works on a XR6T? sorry I have no idea :w00t2:

Just change down through the gears (4th to 3rd, 3rd to 2nd etc..) and the car will slow down all by itself. It means you don't have to use the brakes very much at all, if you starting shifting early enough. Easily done in manual and, thanks to the SSS, auto.
