As in the thread MACKTHEKNIFE mentioned that he has the QMF pads in and said he was down at Chiptorque and Lok11 said after he took his car on a road test after his retune that he induced brake fade with them quiker than the stock setup. What are everyone thoughts on this matter? Will the stock ones be ok for some small amounts of track work. Mind you I have 12500k's on them with no shudder and I get squeeling similar too the performance ones and have had trouble with them.................. YET! (touches wood table).Maybe my stock brakes are having some sort of identity crisis?(brakes say: 'I am the bloody performance ones you idiot')

Now I am bound to get objections from CPC's brake tester (Cro) as he had the same setup and killed them in 1/2 a day.The obvious differences are that I have a manual, which can be driven more sympathetically on the brakes. Also technique comes in to play here, as I am not the last of the late brakers, prefering to set the car up for the corners early. Its just the way I do things. Cro tends to go flat chat at the corner, then brake at the last minute. 2 different ways of lapping the same circuit, my brakes lasted, his didnt. My car was also used in serious performance 7, and Warren Luff completed a dozen laps of Oran Park in 35deg weather. I asked him if the brakes lasted, and he said they were fine. He was actually suprised how good they were considering the weight and the heat.So. in summary:Depending on your style of driving, and the layout of the circuit, a simple pad change may be enough to set you up for the track day. If you are kamikaze last minute braker, you may need to think seriously about some bigger stoppers.

I must of misread the post. There are 2 different grades of QFM brake pads, standard and metallic. I bought front and back standard grade for $40pr ($80 for whole car). The metallics were $10pr extra but as I don't plan to do any track work I didn't bother with them. They are a lot less dusty than the standard Ford pads, even with DBA slotted rotors.A workmate has a BA XT wagon and has had the shudder machined out a couple of times and I think the shims now fitted and he is now complaining of squealing. I told him to replace the pads with QFM, Bendix or other aftermarket brand and that will probably fix it but he is of the opinion that it should be a Ford warranty problem and he shouldn't have to put his hand in his pocket to fix it. I do get squeal under light braking with these pads, but I guess that's what you get with a performance pad these days. There is no squeal when braking hard and no shudder. Cost about $1000 all up for the parts and install and I consider it a very worth upgrade of the standard brakes. The next step up would be the premium stoppers of course, but they are 3 times as much.I looked into getting QFM's (after I already had the Ferodos) and was confused about the range, they had a performance option which I considered but I haven't heard anything about their pads except for the standard $50 set so I figured why change if everything's ok. What were the $240 set called?

Another objection, the Bendix Ultimates can only get to 450c before they melt down like mine did.Ferodo Formula's are good for 650c and I haven't destroyed them yet..Well not till the truck driver did it for me...I got a set for sale dirt cheap in the forsale section. Benny Member 1,869 Member For: 21y 5m 13d Gender: Male Location: Newcastle Posted 14/07/04 02:38 AM Share Posted 14/07/04 02:38 AM I've got DBA 4000's with formula ferrodo pads all round and the difference from standard is excellant. The resistance to fade is increased greatly and I have no problems with shudder anymore. I cannot stress this more "Do not get Bendix Ultimates" they will ruin your rotors and will melt quite easiler like Cro said.
