it's Ford only, I get employee discount.

as Turbs said the tests you read don't really mean sh*t as the BOSS is a pretty tight engine from stock. If anyone can give me the magizine date, I wouldn't mind having a look at that ute article.

here's a point I haven't raised yet; reliablity, we all know how many problems the turbo has been having with gearboxes, oil leaks, parts not put together properly and even loose conrod bolts resulting in a thrown rod! I'm also a member of a few other Ford forums and there doesn't ever seem to be any mention of the BOSS powered cars ever having a problem.

Dave.

When I got my new gearbox the service dept told me they had only really had problems with the XR8 5-speed, no real big issues with the turbo box.

I know this contrdicts popular practice/belief, but that's what he said...

I think the article your refering too is the comparison by Motor between the XR6T, SS and XR8 utes, all with auto's. Its the March 2004 edition.

They concluded the XR6T to be the winner by "some considerable margin"

I think Hypnodoc and Genebaby have them on their cars (not sure which brand) so I suggest you contact them for feedback.

I have a Herrod Helix Throttle Body Spacer for sale if anyone is interested. It was on my XR8 for 2 months before I got the Territory. They cost $280 new I'm selling mine for $230. Supposed to be worth 6kw at the wheels.

thanx for your help guys, it's muchly appreciated...keep them comming!

I've lined up a back to back test drive of the turbo and XR8 utes...

I believe the main advantage with the Helical spacer was in the fuel economy and bottom-end torque, not so much out and out power...

I have the Herrod spacer on my XR8, fuel economy around town is 15.5 or so according to the computer but about 14.4 from my manual calculations. Any Ford dealer that does Herrod gear can supply and fit one for you.

I'm always been happy with my choice of car and obviously, if someone has paid $5000 more for a certain car, that's obviously what they wanted. It's not like XR8/GT owners are grinding their teeth, wishin to hell they could have bought an XR6T.

Had to do an emergency trip to RCH in Melb last week, overall economy with 4 adults and luggage was 12.8 at the end, cruising was of coure effortless and the car with almost 15500km's on it goes better than ever.

Let everybody get what they want, as long as it's a Ford!! Just remember, a new V8 will go hard, but not as hard as a well run in V8.

Vic

ps. This 'which is better' talk reminds of Marshall Vs Mesa amps. I'm a Marshall guy.

don't get me wrong guys, I'm listening to your opinions and taking it in, it's just I know your all turbo fans so I like to test all thoerys...

I am not a "Turbo" fan, I am a "performance ford" man

I have a Ford V8 at home, amongst other things......

You asked which is better, I answered!

alright MS700, calm down! it wasn't a personal attack, well it wasn't even an attack! :)

I was meerly making the generalisation that most of you would say that the turbo is the best choice as most of you own one, hence that's why your on this forum!!

I was just after the REASON why you chose your turbo over an XR8...but I don't want to hear about the $5000 price difference, as I've decided on a ute so there's only an $800 difference, if it was a sedan there would be no question about it.
