why would Mal Wood or Ben need to witness one of their T56 in the APS car .... I would have thought they would have known :spoton:

Well, I could be wrong, but if an individual ordered the box and had it shipped to them rather than under the APS name I would guess that Mal and Ben wouldn't be aware that it was going into an APS car. All speculation of course.....

I mean Brian's upgrade sounds awesome but the price is very steep ... a series II gearbox could be easily retrofitted to a Series I ... I would think and as such be a much cheaper option ...

I think you'd be kidding yourself if you thought any new ford gearbox could handle the torque levels of bcl's car.

Heck, I havent even seen confirmation of the new gearbox in series 2.

If it arrives you could upgrade it and then you'd probably have to modify it again for higher power levels.

Might as well do it right the first time.

Mmmm... good point ... if you have the money for that sort of torque then a gearbox to handle it isn't a problem ...

A Six speed in Series II ... is this Fact or Fiction?

Just Curious?

The 6 speed manual trans will be in the series II from info coming out of Ford motor company. From what I'm told it will be standard equipment in the XR6T, XR8,GT and the Typhoon, Did you guys know that Ford also own a large sharing holding in Getrag. :spoton:

I'm guessing that the T56 would only get the nod from Ford............ if the price is much less expensive than the Getrag...............we all know that the T56 is a Mexican manufactured truck box.........that's it's origin.

Peter ... Good Point ... knowing Ford they will go the cheap option, but as you say the T56 is a truck gearbox ... meaning it can handle alot of torque ... perfect for your sort of addon applications being applied to the T ... so it would be my pick... if I wanted a manual.

I mean the F250's I have driven with the 6 speed (I assume it is a T56) and 684Nm @ 1800rpm go very well IMHO.

The feeling I am getting is the Getrag box may not be that great for modded vehicles... but will be glad to see how this all goes ... :)

Thanks for the inside info :spoton:

If they use the getrag it should be strong enough...???? Anyone know the rating of the getrag box.

Hi Peter - I'm confused, can you confirm that you have indeed got the mexican truck box fitted to your car?

:spoton:

Edit - From what I can make sense of, Ford does not actually own any part of Getrag, though they do have a joint venture OS.

Ford Aust has, to my knowledge never used a getrag box, the only Aust manufacturer to do so was Expensive Daewoo for manual V6s. Ford uses Borg warner & tremec for current manuals, if they owned part of getrag why would they support the competition so heavily?

Now I'm even more confused. And yes I have too much time on my hands at work

Are those things TANKS or what??? :spoton:

They are soooo big. What are they link to drive?

Geeseman,

My cousin uses them as Support Vehicles in the desert (he is in Drilling) ... he works out of Kalgoolie WA (I am originally from Perth) ... and I have driven a couple of them ... the torque delivery is scary ... and they drive like a tank ... and they seriously feel like you own your lane and the one next to you :)

I've driven both the Petrol (5.4) and the Turbo Diesel ... pretty similar. But the 6 speed is solid and strong so I am sure Brian will get his 1000nm easily out of those boxes.

Big Surprise though ... I much prefer my T

Cheers, Jason.

Brian why would any one bother going down this path............. the series II will have the 6 speed trans as standard equipment............and all of the current issues which relate to the 6 speed upgrade will be sorted correctly by Ford...........and the parts for the trans upgrade will be available through Ford Mo Co. :spoton:

Regards

Peter

Peter,

In my case, as I've said many times, I could not afford to wait, and went for what was available.

Ford may or may not release a 6-speed.

All I know for certain is the T5 must go if high torque levels are to be used.

If it's a 6-speed it may meet the upgrade requirements of most people.

Brian
