First time I used my jack I must admit, I thought it was a poor design.

As I had it out, I thought I'd get to know the car better and see what's involved with getting the spare.....

I spent 30 minutes trying to work out how to get the spare out...

I thought Ford had not given me all the bits necessary to get it out....

In the end, had to read the manual. Doh!

Its not inherently obvious if you haven't had a Ford Ute before.

Poking the jack handle through an orifice in the rear was not what I anticipated.

I had to use mine for the first time 2 weeks ago when I found a front tyre flat when I was leaving the car park at work. The Jack clearly sucks. You're spot on about the risk of panel damage.

I ended up taking the tyre to my dealer who repaired it and rotated my wheels front to back. $14 for the tyre repair and $20 for the rotation and balance. Bloody good deal.

EDIT: snow chains? I read in the manual that you can't put snow chains on your XR because they will damage your guards. I'd imagine my 18" rims - like yours, whould be a bigger problem.

Anyone run chains on their XR yet???

I think you've juat solved a problem for me with this question. I am also headed for the snow at the end of August and was not going to take the Turbo due to earlier comments from other Forum Members on the issue of the Mag Wheels getting damaged. As a result, I was going to take our AUII Futura.

I guess it is possible to take the wheels off the Futura and put them on the Turbo ( assuming the nuts line up ).

I hope this isn't a stupid question....but anyone see any problems with this ?

If the tyres on your AU are 16", you shouldn't have a problem with wheel size as far as lining up with the wheel studs and your speedo, whether chains will fit under the gaurds or not :crybaby:

The other thing to consider, if you want to be really anal, is check the speed ratings of your AU tyres and check that they will meet the minimum specicied on your tyre placard.

Well just got back from the snow ( Falls Creek - Going off ! ) & after forking out $100 for chains I never used them. I paid extra for a new chain design which is easier fitting and better on the rims ( as far as damage is concerned ) . As I never put them on I can't comment.

Fatso was never spotted. :glad:

My mate got done speeding & I saw 3 others handing license's over. I set the cruise on 122km/h. It was one of the most relaxing 8 hour drives I've had

I've still got my original mags on & I am planning on taking it to a tyre place to swap them over. I cant be dek@#f doing it all again.

Going down again in Sept & will do the same.

Where did you get the chains from?

Buy/hire?

I got quoted $280 today, more expensive cause they were slim line or some crap.

I used snow chains on my XR last season on a trip to Hotham (The scariest drive of 23km over a 1 hour period I've ever had by the way - blizzard conditions). Anyway, I was VERY careful to fit the hire chains firmly and evenly on my tyres (17" wheels btw), and was lucky enough not to cause any damage. - I read that you shouldn't fit chains AFTER I got back from Hotham - DOH!
