Hey everybody,

I'm relocating to Melbourne from America for a few years coming up very soon. The company I work for will kindly chip in 40% of the monthly lease price of a vehicle, but I'm limited to the Falcon range. Being a Nissan nut, I was bummed at first... until I started reading up on the XR6T and XR8. These ain't my gramma's Taurus!

I can lease either one of these for 60% of $720/month ($432). Now being the typical greedy bas*ard, I'm inclined to go for the XR8 because it costs more to buy new, and I want to maximize my $432. But, being a 300ZX TT fan, I like the idea of a turbocharged 6 cylinder. I also like what I'm hearing about better handling and better gas mileage. What is the real gas mileage difference between the two vehicles? btw, I might be stuck w/ an auto.

The XR8 appeals also because it would be a kick to have a V8 for a daily driver.

What a dilemma! I know you've tossed this one around a thousand times, but I thought I'd give you an expat's perspective.

Rocko,

:spoton: to the site :k24t:

The XR8 is actually a tad slower than the XR6 Turbo cause of the extra weight.

This might change after the engine is completly loosened up in around 20,000kms, but they won't be quicker than the Turbo.

In the Auto, the XR8 is nothing special at all.

Handling is also affected cause of the extra weight, the Turbo will out handle the 8 hands down.

Fuel economy, both are similar. I think the Turbo will use as much as the 8 in day to day driving, and possibly less on the open road.

Having driven a manual and owned an auto XR6T, and driven both varients of the 8, I have to say that the turbo wins in all area's.

Exactly what Crash er sorry Cro said.

Ontop of that the XR6T responds alot better to mods, and ends up being alot quicker for less $$ spent. Just some further food for thought

Hey Rocko, welcome to the forum and to the country (eventually). There are lots of threads comparing the XR6T to the XR8 and you will never get a concensus (particularly on a T forum), however, in my opinion, the T is the most fun you can have with your pants on.

The XR6T has had some good reviews in the US so if you want a novelty bragging point for when you get home, the them good ol boys back home that you are going to buy a 4lt turbo rear wheel drive car. That should make them envious. If you tell them you are going to get an XR8, they can buy a similar car in the Pontiac GTO (or Expensive Daewoo Monaro as it is called here).

Now, what is this hanging crap on the Taurus. The only car in the world that looks the same from the front as the rear. Styling you just can't beat.

My 2 cents worth.

Rocko,

The only thing I can find that makes the xr8 better than the xr6T is the engine note. The v8 sounds beut, but the T wins on every other playing field, especially value. :spoton:

Welcome to GOd's own country whose coastline alone equates to 92.7% of the Earth's circumference. Hopefully by the time you get here will not have become the 53rd state of the USA....less said on that the better.

Having had similar postings to the USA (DC!) you will be delighted by both the level of performance and quality compared to the US built Ford - notwithstanding the odd 'Friday Car' the difference is signifcant and the suspension set-up will not induce motion sickness 5 minutes after departure unlike the Detroit specials.

Go XR6T + APS, there is currently no better bang for the buck, particularly when you are getting 1.3 more of them coming from little ol USA.

Cheers,

Dingah
