Ok guys, I'm looking at picking up some 19s for my car, and trying to get an idea online of cost.

1. Looking at 19x8.5, does anyone know what the width limit is for our cars?

2. On the 17s that came with the car I believe the tyres were 235/45.

I'm seeing the following options so far under 19s

275/30

215/35

225/35

235/35

245/35

275/35

How do the number work??

Help is much appreciated!

Grant,

The numbers are basically the width, and the height (In percentage of width) from what I understand.

So a 234/45 (Standard 17's) is 235MM Wide, and the sidewall height is 45% of 235mm so about 95MM high.

The thing you want to try to maintain is the rolling diameter (To maintain speedo accuracy, or inaccuracy as they come from the factory!) so to go to a larger rim, the aspect ratio will have to come down (Or get the spedo recalibrated some how)

I don't know what fits under them, but think Brian (BCL) has a nice wide set on his car (But I'm not sure off hand what diameter they are)

The other thing I can't work out is the same size tyre from two manufacturers can be visibly different in width :ermm:

Hope that at least helps a bit !

Grant,

Here's what I posted last September:

From what I can see there's not a lot of choice in tyre sizes to keep close to the overall stock diameter.

From my checks using a falken tyre site I've found:

stock 17" tyre of 235/45 has a diameter of 25.3

replacement (which I now use)

front 245/35 19" has a diameter of 25.8; recommended rim 8"-9.5"

rear 275/30 19" (as in your picture) has a diameter of 25.7; recommended rim 9.5"-11"

I use 8.5" on front, and 9.5" on rear.
