I think we will find that its just a promotinal stunt. This will keep V8 Supercars in the papers for the week. At the hearing they will decide to drop the points penalty and uphold the fine.

Just went to the comments page at V8 Supercars.com, and posted the following to AVESCO. Hopefully if a few people do similar they will see the light!

Just a brief note to voice my disgust and concern at the penalty SBR have received after the QLD round yesterday. Surely you are aware of the backlash this ridiculous result will create in the Ford camp? Keep it consistent guys, don't you remember - Cameron McConville got only a 72 point penalty for having an underweight crankshaft at Barbagallo - and that breach resulted in a performance advantage! Just FYI, I was going to buy my group of friends 8 grandstand tickets for next years Adelaide round for our annual trip over from Melbourne, but now I'll be waiting to see the results from Thursdays appeal. If you keep screwing things up to the point where a good honest win turns into a shafting that could cost a team a championship and their reputation, we might have to watch more footy I think. (and I get the feeling there's plenty of other fans that make your living that feel the same way.) Sincerely, Scott

This is going to be interesting, reminds of the brisbane broncos getting docked 2 points for having an extra player on the field. Mind you that player was knocked out being carried off the field 40m away from the ball.

V8 superstars will be interesting to watch next time its on.

just checked the v8 site and it states the reason why...50mm long piece of wire with an unused plug on it...connected to the ecu harness..

Interesting if you look at touring car racing in Australia over the years and you see a familiar pattern...

Expensive Daewoo wins, parity committees do nothing for a few years, Ford starts winning a few races and just before Bathurst the parity committee steps in.

When the EB, in particular the GSR ones started flogging everything, they weren't allowed to enjoy the rewards of an early start to development for too long. Yep, a couple of weex before bathurst, out comes the parity committee.

It took them the dickens own time to act when the AU was getting flogged, with questionable results. AVESCO was quite happy for Expensive Daewoo to win every round for a couple of years.

I mean, there was no advantage to whatever SBR had on their car. The Ford v Expensive Daewoo rivalry is probably near an all time high. However, if AVESCO is seen to be favouring one make over the other, presumably because there are more Expensive Daewoo fans and hence more ticket sales, they might be in for a rude shock when the Ford fans say and then Ford no longer has a reason to compete. Remember that the bean counters are back at Ford Oz!!!

I dont know if there is that sort of conspiracy behind it henry, they do have to investigate it because it is a rules breach, but lets hope sanity prevails and they dont take the points off of ambrose since there was no gains from the wire being there.

Don't mean to go off topic......

But the player in question(webke) was the 13th player and was not knocked out. He was slightly concussed but broncos captain chose to keep playing instead of slowing there momentum. The 14th player was told 3 times by the sideline ref to NOT go on and he ran on anyway. The Wests Tigers were using a man on man marking defence and when the replacement player(14th) ran on he ran approx 25-28 meters without stopping and ran on to the ball at full sprint on scored the winning try. 1st touch of the ball. Tell me how often does a Prop who has been sitting on the bench for the last 20 minutes of a match run on to the field and score with his first touch of the ball?

but how benefical could it have been, webke was being helped off the field by 2 trainers and the ball had moved 40m down field when whoever came on got the ball and scored a try. Not to mention Webke was messed up by a West tigers high tackle.
