The ultimate exhaust note for the T

I know the XR6T is no V8 but there has still got to be a sweet exhaust note waiting to be released in there. In stock form the car is just too damn quite. I'd like to hear from forum guys that are real happy with the exhaust note they have got from their beast after doing exhaust mods. Which exhaust components did you modify and what brands did you use? Did you have to do a full system or does centre or rear muffler replacement do the job? At this stage extra horsepower aint a worry I'm just after a grunty exhaust note.

Rip out the centre mufler mate and see if that rocks your boat.. I would suggest using bolt on flanges so its easy to put back on in case you don't like it

that's what I did,was happy at first, but now when you have a full car of people its a bit droney cause the rear muff is louder with age(24k) but its still ok.

Cheap mod ,and do what ducatijb said with flanges..you do get some low down grunt, bonous ha ha,

I’ve tried 4 modified exhausts so far:

1. replace center muffler …. Definitely sportier, I liked it, although some people said too much drone

2. then added new front section and hi-flow cat …. That was way too loud … over 100db

3. then rebuilt rear muffler with larger internal pipes … still sporty sound but noise level very acceptable to legal limit … good system

4. 4” system with bigger cat and twin exhaust at rear with very large muffler …. The sound changed completely to a much deeper sound, and very acceptable noise level with no drone.

Xr6ikness tried the 4” system with smaller mufflers on his black beast, but that was way too loud, and went to larger mufflers.

I want to stay close to the legal limit and yet have a sporty sound.

Just remember what you hear from inside the cabin is not what you hear if you’re outside the car. My perception is that even the stock exhaust sounds mildly sporty from the spectator viewpoint, but for the driver it seems much more sedate.

You just won’t get a V8 sound out of the turbo.

I went for a 3.5 inch system with a magnaflo hi-flow resonator and a Jun-BL muffler. Its hand made here in Adelaide by Exhaust Technology who did the setups that was in conjunction with the CAPA syatems I think.

Not cheap at the $1300 dollar mark but it sounds great ( fantastic for setting of car alarms in shopping centers ). It would look a little ricey but Mark did a great job of hiding it away under the body so now all you see is an octagonal/oval end tip that you can fit your whole arm up.

Anyone got any good hints for an NA XR6?

Economical, but still grunty sounding? Flanges are definitely the way to go, have used them on my last 2 cars as well.

Same as Modi, not necessarily after an increase in grunt, but don't want any loss either! The Genies I had on my XF had an awesome note - I wish they were still around.

Mrs z has a Herrod cat-back mild steel system on her "sports pak" XT. It's louder than I expected....MUCH louder than my standard T. At idle it's deep and rumbly and sounds a bit like a V8, which is what she really wants. Sounds better at idle and low speed than at high revs/cruise etc, but pretty good overall.

She LOVES it! As the NA and the XT are identical as far as the engine goes, this could be a good option at about $550 to $600.

If you want, I'll try to post a video with stereo sound, but I'll have to rely on someone to tell me how to do that and also catch her on one of the rare occasions that she's not out in her venom beastie, terrorising the neighbourhood.
