FordTech,

surely overboosting wouldnt result in the engine being shut down by the ECU. Anyone who has a modified vehicle has overboosting as standard.

I have had this problem and have a modified car and I think that it may be the result of the overboosting causing the engine to run lean due to set Air fuel ratios.

I had this happen once and then had the car retuned with more richer fuel levels and since then its only happened 3 times and in extremely cold situations (think of the top of Mt Panorama in the rain in the middle of winter...)

Could this be correct?

Is there a way to overide the commends by the ECU to shut the engine down by placing it in limp mode?

I wasn't alone on Mt Panorama and one 'sick' individual had perfected a method of turning the engine on and off inside 1 second whilst the car was moving at high speeds :ermm: (cough, cough, Jeff)

Got the car back today. The dealer took it in with out a booking to fit it in where they could, which was a good start. The service dept desk jockey said they worked on and cleaned the VCT sensor and that they had been in touch with the Ford tech guys. I got the distinct impression he really didn't know what they did so I will have to go back tomorrow to try to talk to the mechanic. Only time will tell if the problem is fixed and I will report what happens when I know a bit more. Fingers crossed!

How did you go CNC?

After a couple of days there have been no engine cutting out/running rough incidents so far. One thing I have noticed is that it seems to be going much better than last week. Traction control has kicked in a few time when I hadn't expected it. :spoton:

Spoke to the dealer again today and they confirmed that the only work they did was to disassemble and clean out the oil galleries in the VCT sensor system.

If that was all it was I will be pleasantly surprised. Only time will tell I guess. :)

Anyone else got a solution to their problems in this area yet?

Not sure but you might have something there as I let my oil change get a little over my original planned change at 22,500 (halfway between 15K & 30K). Anyway I have experienced this loss of power once & since changing my oil all has been ok. Still plan on regapping the plugs & installing the XR8/GT valvesprings though just to be sure!

This is an interesting point you're making fellas.....

that the oil quality may contribute to the issue of loss of power.

The question I'd ask, is

.. Has anyone who has changed their oil more regularly than specified by FORD had any issues with loss of power.....

I have always thought the service intervals that FORD specify are too long apart.

I've been having the same problem due to overboost. Dealer hadn't heard about it (no surprise) :smilielol: had them re gap the plugs and they checked the throttle body but that was as far as they where prepared to go. Didn't check the VCT or the boost/ wastgate solonoid :smilielol: (I think that's it, it's in front of the battery) or anything else. Say ford are working on the problem and would not authorise any further work. They had done 40km in testing and said that they could not get it to replicate the problem. Guess what, I took it for a test and put the foot down 80% throttle at 100kph auto drops down a gear car leaps forward and revs out to 5500rpm then goes up a gear and bingo won't rev past 3750rpm. Only now it feels like its trying to rev higher intermitently cutting in and out. They said that the turbo was puting out 9psi :w00t2: and that that was normal ?. Is this correct. I thought 5 - 7 psi was standard.

I change my oil religiously at every 5000klms, and my car played up on the highway about 2 weeks ago....
