Hi guys, I have just completed my intercooler water spray and it works great. I only intend to use this when I'm dragracing. The total cost was less than $10, (not sure on exact cost but it wasn't much).

All the parts were purchased at Bunnings, in the gardening section. I used some thin clear tubing, T pieces, nozzles, taps, cable ties, number plate tape and a piece of metal rod, (I think it was off the pram, I'll find out soon if anyone notices its not around).

The first stage (about a week ago) was to take off the passenger front wheel and remove the front part of the inner guard. This exposes the water bottle for the windscreen washers. I cut the hose at the bottom of the washer bottle and inserted a T piece. On one side I reconnected the windscreen washers and on the other I had a piece of tubing which I fed through to above the intake box. I tied everything down with cable ties. Just in front of the airbox I cut the tube and inserted a tap. I also inserted a tap in the washer tube under the scuttle just above where the Ford cpu is. With this all in place I put the car back together.

The second stage I completed today. I connected some tube to the tap above the intake box and fed it towards the intercooler. Where the tube first goes over the passenger side of the intercooler I fitted a T piece. I then connected two pieces of tube to the T piece of different lengths and put a nozzle in each. The nozzles are very fine. I then positioned the nozzles so the spary started at the top of either side of the intercooler. I used the metal rod with the number plate tape to keep the sprays in place and secured the whole lot with cable ties.

To use it I have to close the tap to the windscreen washers and open the tap to the intercooler sprays, I also unplug the windscreen wipers, (just below the drivers side wiper). To activate it I just use the washer stalk on the steering column.

I tested the spray and it was alot better than I had hoped it would be. JB was there when I finished the installation and he seemed immpressed.

Hope this helps anyone who maybe contemplating something similar. :censored:

Sounds good Craig. If you decide to go a step further, we can get together one weekend and install a small water pump connected to a switch in the cabin so that you can activate it while staging and keep it running while going down the strip while keeping both hands on the wheel.

If we are really cleaver, we can connect it to the switch that switches your xede maps, so when you switch to higher boost. it kicks in.

Option 3, now you have the plumbing in place, talk to Ian and see if he can use the aux output of the xede to run the pump, then it will be controlled by throttle position and rpm. that's what they did for me when I had the xede, so they know how to do it.

Thanks Dean. I did think about using that feature of the Xede. I decided that I only really needed the water spray at the drag track. What I have should suffice for this. I like the idea of the pump and switch. This could be good for when I change manually. I wouldn't be able to use it right at the start as it would leave water on the track. I'm planning on using it after launching and holding it on for the whole trip except for when in manual mode where I will have to let go whilst changing. I dont think I would loose too much cooling during the 2 changes. I need to keep the spending on the car down a bit as I still need to pay off the last few mods.

I'm going to try to conduct some testing early in the week to see how effective it is. I'll post results as I find them out.

Craig, have you timed how long it takes to empty the bottle? I'm wondering if it'd be better to use it while pre-staging?

I did something similar, but plumbed the water in to my inlet manifold (on my skyline) to stop detonation, had it activated by my Haltech. Problem was it used to suck the water through the pump at high manifold vacuum and a bottle would not last very long. A better pump would have fixed it, (one that would not flow from vacuum) Water injection into the manifold really did suppress detonation and allowed me to run a more aggressive dizzy profile. Have you considered water injection?

Geea,

If you don't mind a bit of metho in your washer fluid bottle, change the contents of your bottle to 90% water and 10% metho. Metho aids the evaporation of the water when it hits your intercooler and you will get a far better cooling effect. It also acts as a wetting agent (yes I know it is water) by breaking the surface tension. This way the water adheres to the IC fins rather than rushing off in drops. This will also help the cooling effect.

You could run straight metho instead of the water..... however, metho on to hot metal and you would have an incredibly fast ball of flame running down the drag strip. With a hot engine bay like the T, that would be guaranteed.

As for the 10/90 water mix, don't drink the sh*t.... unless you add some prune juice, then it tastes ok.... but I digress.

I might have missed this, but how do you stop the wipers from actually 'wiping' I tried disconnecting the pump lines and pulling my .. erm the handle (wiper that is) and the blades still flicked..?

The actual wiper motor has a plug that is just below the drivers side wiper. I just disconnect it when I wont to use the spray. :sleepystuff:
