looks like you buy the hand set so you could do a reflash yourself just arould from the dealer.

Rob

It looks that way. Barry said he will have 500 units in the country soon all de-bugged and ready to go.

I accept that it might not be the best option for major modifiers but for people like me it might be just the ticket if it works well. Bearing in mind it will work on Fpv/ All XR's and standard BA's It will allow me to retune as I add new bits or alternately take bits away..

Like 3 meters of spare intercooler plumbing!! :3gears:

I will be definately looking to see how well it performs.

I wonder how much something like that costs?

I think LS1 Edit is around the $1500 mark so I imagine "XR6T Edit" (or whatever they decide to call it) will be much the same.

I thought the same thing Craig. I also have a problem with tuners charging $1200 dollars for what amount to a couple of hours dyno time to program the ecu.

At least with a unichip or xede, you get hardware and see where your money has gone.

You are paying for the development costs, the hundreds of hours that has gone into developing and testing this product.

There was quite a long and sometimes heated thread at FF a while back discussing which system was better (Edit vs Piggyback) and the dyno figures seemed to prove in the end that the former was better. There also seems to be more (technical) stuff that an edit type program can do that a piggyback can't. No doubt Peter from APS will be along shortly to tell us all otherwise....

As I am looking at going stage 1 when I get back from OS in August, this is an area I am wanting to learn more about.

From a comparison perspective you cannot take the EDIT with you? As it is part of the car. So if you sell your T you cannot take it with you or sell it to redeem some of the money you have spent, where as if it was a piggyback then you can unplug return to stock and keep or sell the unit? :kissmy:

Am I correct in assuming this? Once you have the EDIT the next buyer of your car will be aware it has been tuned? Can you take it back to stock? And will that cost you again?

Also will the EDIT end up deriving more performance from the T's than the piggy back unit? I am aware that they will have more variables to play with so I would suggest that this would be the case?

I am now wondering whether I hold off further, interested in peoples thoughts and input. :spoton:

Word is that it could be around $800 which may be a good reason to consider the option-have to wait and see!

Just got an email from Barry Batten the expected cost for the handheld unit is between $800 and $1000 (That is the cost for the unit to do the Edit not the cost to just have an Edit done) and the unit should allow full flexibility in tuning the BA including de-tuning the car if your selling.

I would like to guess that it will work on series 2 when it is released as well

I have a question regarding this "edit" for the "T's" cpu. I believe that with the LS1 edit that if you get your cpu reflashed by GMH that you have to go back to the tuner and get the edit redone.

I can see a problem if this was the case with the "T". With bigger injectors nessecary at about 220-230rwkw's what will happen to the car if it gets reflashed by Ford and isn't able to run to get the re edit done by the tuner? I believe that with the bigger injectors and stock cpu the "T" wouldn't run very well. :pooh:

Thoughts guys.

Geea. :pooh:

Why would it be a prob with injectors? The ecu still sends a pulse to the injector to squirt the fuel the big injectors just squirt more fuel. Dont they? Cant see your point

I think that the point is the bigger injectors will squirt more fuel compared to the std injector from the stock ECU calibration.
