Mine's fine, no signs of problems, only a whining in 3rd when cold, but I am told it is normal for the manuals as they have a 'straight cut tooth' :w00t2:

The only straight cut gear in a T5 is reverse. If your car whines in third, there is something wrong. Ben.

I'm sure WBT56 or BCL can add some useful comments. We removed the T5 before it let go.

Lachlan

Too fast for me WBT56

Cro - that's a crack up. I'm very pleased you're able to joke still. How did the driver's seat look after the impact? Mind you, you were probably a little busy to notice. :w00t2:

Ben mine went to 2 seperate dealers for evaluation. First they said that it was noisey in 3rd, changed the oil then told me it's because of the straight cut gears.

Second dealer checked the car admitted there was a whine, called out the manufacturer to make an evaluation. The manufacturer said the same thing that it ws normal because of the cut gears, and the load that they are designed to take.

I have also had Ford involved in it as I elevated the complaint. This is also the line they are taking. They said if they replaced it there is evey chance the next one will make the same noise possibly in all gears? :nono:

It only whines in 3rd until I have got enough heat in it (I.e heatsoak) then it's as quiet as a mouse. The gearbox operates beautifully, that is why I do not want to replace as if it's anything like my diff, then I have decided to live with what I have.

My actual thoughts of the problem are bearing related, as the bearing heats up and expands the noise goes away? :w00t2:

If you know more than I do I am open to any sugestions or comments you have. As to not highjack the thread please PM me. :nono:

Sorry to go off topic guys. Just interested in what Ben may know. :w00t2:

Look - the noise is normal, try driving a truck!

I think tyre noise, wind noise and the noise of you pants ruffeling in the seat would be more annoying - it sounds tough, like a V8 supercar. Just pretent its something really expensive and sophisticated making the noise, makes it enjoyable to hear it!

I love all the noises and whines and clunks my Turbo makes, reminds me I am driving a PERFORMANCE CAR and not playing a video game or driving a camery.

Geezzz...

If you look closly in the pic, through the rear door gap you can see the drivers seat. Or the frame anyway :)

Seat actually came off it's rails. No brown stuff was left behind though
