BA_Turbs Member 836 Member For: 21y 7m 29d Gender: Male Posted 24/06/04 10:21 AM Share Posted 24/06/04 10:21 AM I mentioned in another thread recently that I was being given a new gearbox due to second gear having "slow" synchros. Basically this meant that on a full throttle and quick gearchange from first to second there would be a very loud crunch from the gearbox. When I took the car to Ford, they happily rang the gear box manufacturer and said they would ring me back the next day and tell me what they wanted to do about it. A week and a half later no reply so I rang Ford and was told that my brand new gearbox had arrived and needed to book a time to have it fitted. They were very busy so I agreed they could have the car for a few days and they could do it between other jobs. While the gearbox was out I got a phone call telling me that my SECOND clutch was going to be stuffed within 5,000kms. So that would mean that my car would be on its third clutch in 24,000kms. I don't thrash the car, but I don't drive Ms Dasiy either. Ford said I might as well get the clutch done now as it would save on labour, the gearbox was already out and it saved getting it out again soon to have it done. The cost of the replacement clutch was $886 including labour. This seems like straight out theft to me. How can it be so much when they apparently weren't going to charge me extra for labour? Anyone else here had to have a cluch done? They replaced the clutch, pressure plate and something else, but I can't remember what it was. The lease company has paid for it, but it simply doesn't seem right.Opinions? You may have to insist on it but certainly should be covered by Ford motor co. I just bought a H/Duty Clutch and Pressure plate and spacer for the GT as I can't be bothered going through the drama of having their CRAP pressure plates replaced under warranty. The whole setup including freight was $745, also got a short shifter so that bumped it up a little more. But get this, Redhawk priced a new Ford setup at about $2300 from memory and they are crap at over 300kW, the rumour mill reckons they did it on purpose to have a weak link. I reckon they did it on purpose so they could indulge in some DISGUSTING PROFITEERING . I must say though that I've never had any drama with any warranty claim from Ford and sometimes it pays to remember that even worse stories can be read from those who chose the dark side and regretted it. I'm just rapt that FORD are back in the go fast business Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/11473-new-clutch/#findComment-136919 Share on other sites

The car is leased, so I don't have much to do with maintainence issues other than dropping it off and collecting it.I make it an issue of mine when a new standard clutch costs $886, when there is no labour for removing the gear box, its already out! Might do the ring around and find out what a replacement clutch with no labour for removing the box should cost.... They were basically implying that it was my driving. Like I said earlier, I don't dirve Ms Daisy, but I don't drive at 100% everywhere either. The gets a couple of little bursts a day of "spirited" driving. Guest jasonturbo Guests Posted 26/06/04 12:24 PM Share Posted 26/06/04 12:24 PM with the money you spent on replacing the clutch you should have just put in a heavy duty one, would costed $200 more but at least you would be rid of the problem, I havent got my t yet but after I do about 5,000km's on it out with the sh*tty ford clutch and in with a new one Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/11473-new-clutch/#findComment-137726 Share on other sites

I wasn't really consulted properly before the work was done either, they more spoke to the lease company.
