 funniest thing ever!

I agree with the other people that the clutch would've been engineered as the weak link, to save more expensive and dramatic drivetrain troubles. Subaru did a simlar thing in the WRX as the earlier WRX didn't have the strongest of 'boxes.

Mine slipped the other day, launched it with 2500rpm and went no where, once I backed off it grabbed and I was underway, then I did it again straight after from 3000rpm and the tyres gave way and I took off in a cloud of smoke sideways. Why did it slip like it was farked the first time, and hookup 450nm (downhill too) and break traction of two 235 dunlops in the dry the second?

Stupid car.

Good day guys,

Zap not sure if you have any mods but I found that with more power on tap the car launched better than when standard, possibly because it broke traction easier.

-had spare wheel and flat kit out of car.

-high revs and gradual release of clutch while ridding the accelerator (yes accelerator, looking for sweet spot) You want to be off the clutch engagement when the turbo kicks in!

-line the car up on a slight angle with steering straight.

works for me!

Cheers

Thanks all.

While I can understand that a clutch should be the weak link, I was just suprised as I have had only manual cars and never had any problems. I guess having nearly 500nM of torque on tap would put a huge load on the driveline and that the clutch will cop the brunt of this load. I am just not sure now on how to launch the car right as I do not want to practice too much or I might not have a clutch. Tony's suggestion is what I ended up doing by spooling up then lifting off as soon as the clutch engaged and then it was on.

The TC was OFF and the car is stock aside from a CAI and BMC filter. It was a cold night so the car was on song

I used to have this problem. At first it only happened from time to time, but then it started to become quite common - to the point where nearly every time I tried to get a quick launch off the line, the clutch would slip.

So when my car went in for its next service, I told them that my clutch was slipping. They replaced it under warranty, no hassles at all. Haven't had any problems with the clutch since.
