Done!

Now one monent I forgot to mention about Sunday was leaving the Phillip Island Road and turner back towards Melbourne at Anderson's Roundabout. I'll just say Craig and Dean were in convoy, and they were feed up with the traffic. I was behind Craig, and as we turned I ended up out in the right hand lane, he in the left behind the traffic.

We had talked about how a standard T might go against his modified beast. Craig, not sure if you realised I was there or if you knew my brother and I were peddling as hard as we could to get the Red Dragon going. I must have planted the welly about .5 of a second before you, becuase for a moment I thought "Oh, there's not that much difference".

<_<

How wrong I was. When you actually gave it to Boof, I heard the roar :banghead: (over the stereo on 18), saw the car squat ever so slightly, lane change and then :pinch: . Very, very impressive!

I actually remember that moment Antony. I looked in my mirror just after I booted "BOOF" and I thought to myself, "bloody hell, didn't know Antony was there hope I didn't cut him off".

I'll have to bring him down to Frankston for you to have a drive of.

It would be good if on the next cruise we were able to use some "private roads" to test out the acceleration of our cars.

The UHF radio's were great too. I borrowed one from Dean and it made the cruise complete. I might try get a couple before the next cruise so more can share the experience.

Guys,

Just a note on the radios. I've had a UHF in the Land Rover (which is now im my office) and one in the wifes car (as that was my daily driver) and I recently aquired some of these tiny handhelds.

Being used to the in car units, the quality of these little handhelds are certainly nowhere near that of the in car jobs. They do the job, but I struggled to hear things clearly over the road noise. There was always an in car unit on the way since day one for my T, just not there yet.....

So the point to my post is, if you plan to do a few cruises and enjoy the radio communiation, save a few hundred $ and go for something like the GME TX3400 or Uniden UH-013, I have had both, and currently have a GME TX4400 in the house (from the 4WD). The little remote head units will fit neatly into the centre console or under the tissue holder. Will be adding a UH-013 to the T soon.

Hooked up to a good quality extension speaker under the dash, you cant go wrong.

Cheers,

Michael...

Geea & Mook05,

Which Uniden models did you use on the cruise........??

I just purchased the Uniden UH041 1 Watt but found the range to be pretty low......managed around 1 km when in the car and around 1.5 kms when on foot......

They were $177 for a pair with recharge batteries and double charging cradle.....from Dick Smith......

I will return them and go to Tandy who have the more powerful 2 Watt UH044 on sale for only $143 each but at least double the wattage thus bigger range......they normally retail for $199.......even if I only get around 3-4 kms out of them I'll be more than happy......

I might then eventually consider a proper CB base station for home like those models you mentioned but on bigger aerials.....ummmmm

Any comments from anyone??

If anyone else is interested, we could try bulk order and see what price we can get them for.........

Dutchie,

Mine are the UH036, half watt, so half the power of yours. I got them for a swap of some old 4WD gear - just to keep in the glovebox as spares, in case we are in a group of cars that dont have radios. Also use them around the Navy Cadet unit I run.

The proper in car units are 4w and you can average around 10km depending on terrain & antenna etc., not using a repeater....

The little glass mount phone antenna that was on my rear window at the cruise wasnt actually a phone antenna, it's a UHF Antenna - in place ready for my UHF. Also come with a longer whip for better range. Can take photos on the weekend if you like.

For the mobile phone kit antenna you can now also get units that have no external whip - just a box that sticks on the inside of the window. Got one of them too.

So no need for an ugly UHF antenna on the outside of the car anymore, just go the glassmount that looks like a phone antenna.

Feel free to ask any more questions you may have....also if you doa search I think the guys in NSW had a similar thread going...

Cheers,

Michael...

Thanks Mook for that..........

Ummm confused now.........maybe I should just keep the little 1 Watt Unidens......???!!!

Is it worth swapping them over for the 2 watt ones then??

And look down the track of getting a CB for the car then??? as well as one for the home......

Are there any good ones for around $250.00 mark that I can use as a home unit??

I bought a pair of these on Saturday (for myself & Mackasxr6) and speaking for myself, I was more than happy with them for only $59:00 a pair.

.......Excelent value.......
