I've driven the SSS behind the 183 kw XT and think it is smooth and responsive. In comparison the VY Commodores I score from work can be caught out at small revs when you require a little more power. Like at 80 when you want to accelerate reasonably to 100.

In fact the auto box in my 180,000 klm EF2 is better as far as smoothness goes than the Late model camira box.

My opinion is that the Auto will cope with the current power (just) but when the Turbo cars are modified for more power the Autos will start failing. Ford are building stronger Autos for the V8s (that's why Auto V8 are not avail at the moment) and hopefully these stronger autos will find their way into the Turbos. This is one reason why I am delaying my purchase.

I feel the manual T5 is a weak point and would have thought the Tremec used in the V8 would have been a better option. When modified properly this new engine is capable of an relatively easy 550-600 RWHP. Just wait and see. There are already a couple of guys with Turbo 4L 12 valve heads getting this horsepower. Of course not everyone wants to go this far but 300kw at the engine is dead simple just raising the boost and adjusting the fueling/ignition appropriately. A good porting of the manifolds/turbo/dumppipe is easy to do and would yield a few more KW quite easily for low bucks.

My friend's V8 Fairmont Ghia auto lost 1st, 2nd, and 4th the other day, completely.

It has 12,000km on the clock, and had been getting worse over about 2 weeks. First it lost 4th gear, then it lost 2nd. Then when it couldn't pull itself outta bed in 1st he cracked the sh!ts and dropped it off to the dealer on the back of a towtruck...
