Xr8 And Gt - Dissapointing

I may sound stupid but at the motorshow on tuesday I got mixed up between the xr8 and the pursuit. .

so wen I went last nite and sed to me m8's yer the pursuits in that dog ugly yellow paint .

and we get in and its actually the other way around, with the xr8 in the yellow, boy did I cop it

so I gess every1 is right there needs to be a bit more differentiation between the gt's and xr's, at least on the ute platform

that im not at all dissappointed with the GT

And why would I be?

For that price and power and those beautiful looks I would be mad to be dissapointed.

Dont give up yet on it im sure there will be a series 2 or something and maybe they will cut a few kilos off it too.

Yous should be comparing it to a Clubsport R8 or something not a turbo 6.

GT Motor test

In a separate story on Motor...

The GT was tested. Motor managed a best time of 6.14s (0-100km/h) and 14.42s (0-400m).

As was the case with Wheels, they weren't happy with the times so they went to the Ford proving ground and handed the car to one of their engineers who posted the car's best performance times... the result was 5.81s (0-100km/h) and 14.06 (0-400m).

WTF??? It seems that neither Wheels or Motor see fit to publish the GT's times recorded on the day of the test, and saw fit to record the times under more favourable conditions/use the services of a more 'accomplished' driver.

From an engineering viewpoint, it's a big & expensive job to lighten a car's chassis without compromising structural integrity. Regarding the ongoing weight issue!..... Apparently, Ford has had heaps of "issues" with the structual integregity of the floorplan on the BA?.. Early trial versions were "tying themselves in knots" with floorpan flex coping with the torque of the Boss.. The floorpan was then revisited & structure altered ( A large part of the weight issue!) .....So if they are gunna build a lighter series 11, Where is the saving coming from???

I would personaly like to have a car that is structually safe and well engineered rather than a nice light one that snaps in when you punch the throttle,no if the chassis was lighter but weaker everyone would be complaining about handling or this or that or someother crap.So heres the law fellas:

XR6T-Techno Marvel,just right for the maturing doof-doofers,fast and cool.Brings new people to ford

then they progress to:

XR8-more mature people,Better and more refined than an SS,on par performance,look cooler to boot.Sounds F****N A+ too boot.

GT-Is a Grand Tourer,sounds cool, almost as much power and more torque than the HSV GTS at only 2/3 the cost,nostalgia trip for old farts who have had previous GTs etc

In today's "Drive" inside the Sydney Morning Herald they have done a comparison of five performance cars. One of which is the GTP. To quote...

"How does it go, very well indeed....

There is one reservation, however. There is anecdotal evidence that the stablemate XR6 Turbo is faster than both the GT and the XR8. So why did Ford pursue a big V8? The sound. This is one seriously sweet engine for it's size..."

I think the GT is an awsome car and there is much more to it than accel times. You say the xr6 turbo is quicker than the gt, but a WRX is quicker than both in rain or shine, handles better and has better fuel economy.

This doesn't make the wrx a better car. I don't know about anyone else but I rarely rev a car above 3000 unless overtaking. The GT goes hard enough for the streets, sounds awsome and feels solid in handling.

The makers of the fastest and most exotic cars in cars in the world bmw, ferrari, porsche(bar 911 turbo), lamborguni dont use turbos, proving a well engineered engine doesn't need forced induction.

Having said this the xr6 turbs is still an awsome car but is not a quadcamV8 or in the same league as the porshe flat6 or m3 6.
