Just had an offer to get a blow off valve installed for free when i get my car. What are the warranty implications and any problems that may be encountered by fitting one? Im a bit concerned about the following:

1. Warranty

2. Causing engine problems

Anyone help? :(

If it were me, l wouldnt bother.

You will have a brand new car with a 3 yr warranty. What happens if you damage the engine, or worse still have an accident and your insurer discovers the mods?

Ford have gone to extreme lengths to make the engine difficult to modify from everything l have read, so who knows what a mod like this may do. l'm sure the computer controlling the engine records all sorts of parameters and has built in diagnostics that, should a engine probelm develop because of the blow off valve, will help Ford techs find the engine has been modified.

l think Ford will be closely examining any turbo engines or drivelines that develop problems since the engine is essentially new and relatively unproven.

I think theoretically it wouldn't cause any major problems as the engine is MAP sensor controlled (there was another thread elsewhere where we were discussing this, can't remember where now though ) but in all honesty with the bugger-all boost these engines are running there's no reason for it IMHO :)

Acording to this rewiew, the BA turbo has a blow off valve - a Bosch one to be exact so no need to fit one or worry about warranty :)

Ford has treated their long-standing 4.0-litre design to a 24-valve twin-cam head with variable inlet and exhaust cam timing (VCT), roller bearing GT40 Garrett turbocharger, Garrett front-mount air-to-air intercooler, Bosch blow-off valve and electronic throttle control. It is truly a quantum leap over anything in the previous Falcon range. For maximum drivability there's a relatively high 8.7:1 static compression ratio combined with very mild boost pressure. With the turbo set to deliver just 6 psi, the new engine can stomp out 240kW at 5250 rpm and a very handy 450Nm from 2000 through to 4500 rpm. Who said all turbo engines are peaky?!

Well, what richdave said, plus as far as I know external blowoff valves are illegal. Something to do with releasing exhaust gasses straight into the atmosphere. I reckon it'd be pretty funky but you don't wanna mess with the cops if you don't have to.

Hey, an aftermarket blow off valve shouldn't void your warranty, but speak to your local ford dealer to make sure. Venting to atmostphere isn't illegal, because it's not venting exhaust gasses, the BOV sits on the intake side of the turbo somewhere between the turbo and the throtle body. so it's only venting fresh air.

Note: I pick my turbo up monday arvo, looking forward to it soo much.

Been told by a FOMOCO Engineer that it will void warranty.

the BOV on the falcon needs to be vented back into the system as is you dont the fueling of the motor will be up the creek as the computer will sence the wrong pressure in the intake and over fuel!
