Xede upgrade review after 30,000kms

OK.

Some may recall that my vehicle was showing 279rwkw after the addition of only an Xede processor, a homemade CAI, removal of the centre muffler, & a healthy diet of hard acceleration! At the time the car had 5,500kms onboard.

Further details are available at this previous thread:

Several people raised concerns about the stock injectors & fuel pump/pressure being at the limit. And they were right....there isn't anything left to be sqeezed out of the injectors in particular.

I recently had the 30,000km Ford Dealer Service. They tinkered around, flashed an updated program to the ECU, & there was a noticable difference to the behavour of the car, both in standard tune & in performance tune (remember, the Xede allows for two tuning maps).

In standard tune the car had became more gutless (ie lost power & some boost).

Performance tune saw overboost occur when the accelerator was booted & RPM's increased beyond 3,800rpm. Controllable by easing off the accelerator, but the car just didn't feel 'right' anymore.

Had to wait 2 weeks to get time on the dyno, & that brings me to today (3/6/04).

All dyno runs were in the Xede tuned state. Initial runs confirmed overboost etc.

Dyno technician (read LEGEND!) thought that maybe a signal was getting stuffed up. So another look under the bonnet...& lo & behold....the Ford Dealer Service monkeys had done the following:

During service they had to replace the water pump O-ring & fit a new collar. To do this they must have removed the intake ducting. Well, when they replaced the ductwork, they hadn't correctly fitted one end of a tube to a flange, & had tightened the hose clamp at an odd angle.

This allowed the pressure being built by the turbine to 'leak' out, causing problems with the pressure generated and/or the measured boost pressure signals.

Two minutes to fix. Resulted in returned performance, both in standard & performance tunes!

In the end, still got the Dyno technician to do a full check of the system/tune. Looked at AFR, boost pressure, etc. All OK & no real change compared to the original install date (9 months earlier & 30,000kms ago). No degradation of fuel supply system etc. All good news as far as longevity is concerned.

He then proceeded to finetune my Xede's maps & managed to squeeze a few more rwkw out!

Gotta be happy about that!

And second: todays tweaked dyno results.

It should be pointed out that this printout & result followed a total of 23 dyno/power runs to check & tune the car during a period of 1hr 15mts.

Looks Good :k24t: . Making good power. What boost are you running ?Not picikn

just really interested?

Happy...yes!

Sad....also yes! I look at my old N/A ute & it ain't got a hope in hell to make the power that the T does, without serious money being thrown at it, & then it wouldn't be suitable as a daily driver!

Technology certainly has come a long ways!

I have a question. With either chip upgrade weather that be chiptorque or unichip, if and when ford services your car and upgrades the program on the ECU hopefully for a better one, does this mean you will have to get the chiptorque/unichip chips reprogrammed also.
