Took it for a drive and the braking power was there, went to the dealer to sort the CD player out, while I was there I queried the brakes and I sat in other BA's and they all feel the same - spongy pedal. I foundmine bit very hard when they were hot, and were doey when normal driving. Brakes shudder BAD when used hard from speed. Lots of dark residue patches on the front discs. Has a similar appearance to the problem I had with my VL turbo with DBA slotted discs and EBC greenstuff pads. Apparently that was some sort of residue from the pad material that was incompatible with the discs. Changed pads and it was OK again. The greenstuff had better bite though.....pity. In for service next week and I asked that they check and fix the brakes. Will see what happens.cheers Link to comment https://www.fordxr6turbo.com/forum/topic/11072-do-later-models-have-better-brakes/page/4/#findComment-134351 Share on other sites

Ford fixed it and the service reps told him it was an issue with callipers. He also said ford know about the fault and that this problem has been fixed on late 03 cars onwards. Dads BA is 04/03 with 17000kms, and the shudder was gettin pretty bad but is sweet as now! If you think the BA brakes are bad I recommend you drive an E series car. My EL will all new disk brakes, pads and fluid has nowhere near the stoping power of the BA. YOOT Member 1,201 Member For: 21y 10m 20d Location: Birkdale Posted 19/06/04 02:22 AM Share Posted 19/06/04 02:22 AM ^^^^^^^^Tell me about it^^^^^^^^^I had a 1994 ED Fairmont and I replaced all four rotors with DBA Slotted, and pads to Bendix ultimate and the bas*ard would pull up hard under ABS once they got hot but normal driving it felt like all four calipers were seized. Unbelievable. The BA however, I hardly have to push the pedal hard, and when I do I just baout rip the wheels out from underneith the car! I found that when the car was new a trip with the club through the mountains bedded the brakes in fine. Guest jteale Guests Posted 22/06/04 10:41 PM Share Posted 22/06/04 10:41 PM Only had my T for a week but the brakes are way better than my old AUII and they are heaps better than the demo T I drove (probably hammered by potential customers and dealer staff) ... mine was straight from the factory and the brakes are excellent so far ... may still go for some upgrades down the track when I pump up the power with some upgrades but for a stock car they are perfect.
