Ok, I have found the stock headlights on lowbean woeful and thought I would try the upgraded globes that I had put in my old VR4 that made a noticable difference.

I went to my friendly parts store and spoke to them about the different choices. They did not have the phillips globes I had used in the past, but after talking to them I chose the same globe they all used in their cars. They are called Osram Cool Blue +50 55w/60w Halogen/Xeonon.

They cost me $29.85 (trade) for the pair and WOW is all I can say.

I found the stock Osram globes shon a yellow tinted light and did not seem to project very far. I tested this under many different conditions and I found the stock lights about as usefull as my old 1971 Valiant.

The new globes were a bit of a pain to fit. I removed the airbox and battery to complete the job as I have big hands and a lot of time and tools. The different was noticable even in daylight. While the globes are called Cool Blue, they do not look blue. They are a bright white and when I had one globe fitted you could see the difference. After fitment I waited for dark and I could see the whiter light and the distance was significantly improved. For the hour to fit and the 30 odd bucks it was a very good mod. For the people who do not want to risk ADR's and $1700 for the xenon upgrade it is a good choice. They are safe to use in our plastic headlights, same wattage so no burnt out wires and are a great safty upgrade :spoton:

Are they legal? Will your insurance company refuse a claim because you have non OEM parts fitted?

............All good questions! :crybaby:
