OK everyone - hot on the heels of the great Hunter weekend I'm all fired up to do a similar thing for you guys in my area.

This is what I'm thinking.

Depart Sydney/Canberra/Wherever Sat morning and drive to Batemans Bay via whatever route each group organises, lunch along the way, and to arrive in the Bay by 2PM for muster.

Sat afternoon to be an Obs Rally around the area to take up say about one and a half hours.

I will arrange a deal on accommodation (dinner bed and b/fast) and including an entertainer (singing/dancing/karoke) for the Sat night.

Sunday will be a visit to the zoo and a river cruise - or a morning drive (about an hour and a half will be available) and river cruise. Cruise begins at 10:30AM and ends at 2PM leaving time for people to travel home to their respective abodes in the same groupings as for their arrival.

For the obs rally I'm thinking a Mix 'n' Match affair. This can be done in either of two ways depending on majority wishes. One is to allow the ladies to drive (the men folk have already driven here during the morning) in their car, and for the men to pick keys out of a hat to find out which car they will be "navigating" in. The other way is for the men to drive and for the ladies to pick the key so that they get to navigate for someone other than their own partner. This is a fun way of doing the rally because it stops any tension developing between spouses :spoton:

SOOOO - what do people think and ALSO the timing as I know there are already a few things under planning and coming up soon ... ??? I am thinking sometime in August as I can arrange very good prices on accommodation before the tourist season gets under way which happens from Sep onwards.

Jeff

PS. Ken, NO the Mix 'n' Match does NOT go on into the evening's entertainment.

UPDATE 02-06-04:-

Here's the planned itinerary subject to further comments :-

Weekend of 24th/25th July.

SAT - Travel to the Bay in cruise formation from your respective locales to arrive in Batemans Bay, muster at the Bowling Club on the highway, by 2PM.

2:30PM begin Obs Rally - choice of swapping navigators for this event if people so wish. It will bring some extra points. People without a navigator may pair up for the rally - toss a coin to see whose car is used. Rally will conclude back at the Bowling Club by 4PM. We have a "post mortem" over a coffee/beer while waiting for all to arrive. Then to the motel for freshen-up and dinner at about 6:30PM. Live entertainment with singing/dancing/karoake till whenever.

SUN - Breakfast from 7:30AM. Depart motel 8:45AM sharp to arrive at Mogo Zoo 9AM for guided tour and animal feeding. Depart zoo at 10:15 to arrive back in the Bay by 10:30Am for river cruise which includes morning-tea and lunch. Cruise ends at 2PM after which we all say our goodbyes and head for our respective abodes again in cruise formation.

ALL INCLUSIVE COST for the above is $90 per person.

It is very cheap because I have been working in the industry for over 25 years and have negotiated wholesale travel/tour agents prices. IT IS CONDITIONAL THAT I GET 50 PERSONS or there may be a small increase in the accommodation costs. To break it down the accommodation is $70 and the other $20 covers admission charges to zoo and river cruise and lunch on Sunday. The motel cost includes a three course dinner, deluxe accommodation, and cooked buffet breakfast.

OK, just need to know now who is coming ...

The list as of 13th July:-

Ok, so I'm interested ... not sure that I'm happy about SWMBO driving, especially if I'm not in the car ... :pics::nono:

Having a new navigator has some merit ... shame about the duration ... oh well, never mind, maybe on another type of cruse? :fishin: ... pity the poor sap who ends up with SWMBO, their ears will end up bleeding.

Dates and availablity will be the determining factors for me, so let's organise it early for the best turnout. :spoton:

6Man sound like a great idea. Always up for a cruise and associated revelry.I think the key idea has some merit  this would certainly alleviate periods of silence on the airwaves as domestics would not exist , with everyone being on their best behaviour.

As per Kents post we do need to start thinking about dates pronto.

I suggest 14&15 or 21&22 August

Regards

Captain Bligh

I will be at Oran Park with FoMoCo on the 15th as well........

Plan it early, so we can all organise time off work!

Kirsty isnt the most "confident" driver when she is at the wheel, a little bit paranoid of doing something that will damage my car!

And her navigation skills? that's why I got Sat Nav from the factory!

Bah away on a Round Da World Business Trip August 10 - September 20th or so. Thoughts on the mix 'n' match, and what if you turn up single to the drive?

I will get on one of these damn cruises, that is a promise.
