I have to agree with ms700. ppl like the net coz its anonymous. I wouldnt join any website where I have to meet someone to join it. Too inconvenient, too unusual. The way it is at the moment is goodly :spoton:

Guys , it is important that we not let this get blown out of proportion. Yes , some of us visit other forums for a look see, and generally speaking we are well recieved. There is always the minority that have no other intention than to invoke a bite ( as per MS 700s observations) from our community.

That said there are also fools from the Ford camp that do the same. Think about it , lets not get too myopic in our thinking.

At the end of the day ( bloody cliche ) we all need to show all of the badges a modicum of respect and let the moderators do what they need to do. I mean look at the money they get

I think the same conduct that is being talked about here (ie not putting up with people bagging out other cars etc) should be the same conduct WE use in other forums.

I'm a member of a lot of forums, for a lot of different cars and I am for reasons that include my interests in those cars as well as my interests in the people on those forums. eg I may be a member of a certain make/model forum becuase it has three members who are standout genius when it comes to carpc stuff.... Rather than bug them in e-mail etc I can tap their knowledge through a forum. That way EVERYONE gets benifit.

I talk about my ICC/xbox stuff anywhere for that reason. I want to help as many people as possible rather than just a select group. The Internet is a big place and sometimes even a site as big as XR6-T can be hard to find.

The suggestion of having to "introduce" new members is basically saying "we only want the people we know in, everyone else bugger off" I personally think that is very selfish. I didnt know anybody when I very first joined up

What I'd like is for someone to register to join, they would do so by registeriing their location & then a current member would contact them meet them within a short time period, validate their membership (or nominate them) & off they go. prior to this anyone can read forums but would be unable to post.

ps. speaking only for myself I travel my little part of the world frequently & would be happy to drop in & meet intending members.

You wanna cruise on up to Brock's Creek and Validate me?

there are five of us (at last count) from the NT here, not a good Idea for us poor country bumpkins!

Personally, a forum is all about a mixture of people and ideas. If you start choosing the type of people that can register then the site may as well be closed down.

The whole "usefullness" (if the word even exists) of a forum is to get fresh idea and perspectives from people of all walks of life.

Anyway, another one of my "typing whilst im asleep posts" im outta here :)

There are members in most areas now especially NT, where some of the longest serving members are residing. For remoteness, a phone call would suffice. As far as OS is concerned, we have members there to to help. Remember K1W1 was about the 1st to show people how to put the LED lights in the window switches.

IMO, I'd say NO to 'interviews' of any sort.

My experience: this is the first & only site to which I either contribute with posts, or infact even attend/view/read. Ever!

If it required an interview to have posted etc., you would now all be the poorer for it  (just kidding) cause I wouldn't have joined.

Sure, if I hadn't joined I also would now be significantly lacking the knowledge on the T that I now pocess, & I wouldn't have the enthusiasim gained from sharing the experience of ownership & shared thoughts. But if I hadn't joined, I wouldn't know any different!
